Fun Things to Do in Memphis

Memphis is a dream destination for rock and roll music lovers and barbecue enthusiasts. In as much as there is plenty of both, Memphis has countless and unique tourist destinations and fun things that you can indulge yourself in. Among the many fun things that you can do in Memphis are:-

Located in Audubon Park, the Memphis botanic garden covers an area of 96 acres and consists of 28 gardens including the Japanese Garden of Tranquility, Anne Heard Stokes Butterfly Garden, among others. The most popular garden is the My Big Backyard where the whole family can enjoy the outdoors and take part in special events such as the Daffodil Dash Race or The Family Egg Hunt.

This is the place where rock n’ roll was born. Opened in the early 1950s by Sam Phillips, Elvis Presley made this the most famous studio in the world. Take a tour through the studio where famous other famous artists such as B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, and many others recorded their songs. You also get to learn more about these famous artists. The museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 06:00 pm.

A visit to Memphis would not be complete without a visit to Graceland which was Elvis Presley’s home. A guided tour through the preserved mansion will give you an insight on how the king of rock ‘n roll lived. Visitors get to go through numerous memorabilia from Elvis’ career such as his gold and platinum records and movies. You can also engage in the many activities hosted at Graceland such as Elvis’ birthday or Christmas.

This is the largest and oldest museum in Tennessee having been built in 1916. The museum features thousands of artistic pieces from local and international artists such as Gainsborough, Renoir, Pissarro, and many others.

This museum offers a host of interactive and hands-on educational exhibits to children of different ages. Your children are bound to enjoy some playtime at this museum.

The Memphis Zoo is rated as one of the best zoos in the states and is home to thousands of animals including giant pandas which are considered an endangered species.

Memphis is located on the Mississippi River, which is the longest river in the United States and the third in the world. Most cruises on this river also include commentaries on the history of Memphis as well as the present and past state of the Mississippi River and its influence over Memphis.

Located in what was the Lorraine Motel, this museum’s objective is to take people through the American Civil Rights Movement. It also educates on how this historic event helped shape the freedom and equality we experience today. A tour through the museum ends in the exact spot where Dr Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
