Battles in the Pacific Theater in WWII
Pacific war, which is commonly referred to as the Asia-pacific War, was part of World war II in Asia, Oceania, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean. It was the biggest theatre of World war II. The war took place between December 1941 and September 1945. The war was mainly contributed by the Japanese attack on the naval base of the United States. The war between the two countries could not be avoided since both governments had shown the South Pacific’s same wants. The following are some of the major U.S battles.
Battle of the Coral Sea
The fight took place for four days in the fifth month of 1942, and it was the very initial battle that was fought between air and sea in history (Hunter & Wood, 2017). Japanese wanted to make the coral sea be under them, but this was not successful due to the allies. The American army attacked the Japanese using aircraft, leaving the Japanese with few plans to establish their plan, leading to the American army’s victory. The two teams also had carriers, and the Japanese had divided their ships to cover the area.
Battle of midway
This took place on the 3rd-6th of June 1942 and was almost completely done by using an aircraft. This took place at Midway Island, which was at the centre of Asia and North America. The US got rid of Japan’s aircraft and also their professional pilots (Solly, 2019). This threatened the Japanese as it had been roughly six months after they had invaded the naval harbour, and they ceased invading the Pacific. It was of great significance in World war II. This happened just three years before the end of the second world war II, so it is such a remembered battle.
Battle of Guadalcanal
The battle is also known as the Guadalcanal campaign and took place from 7th August 1942 to 9th February 1943 on Guadalcanal Island (Nilsson, 2017). The allies had planned to use Tulagi and Guadalcanal as their main spots to catch the Japanese. The allied army was many compared to the Japanese army. This battle is significant since it marked when the allies changed from operations meant to defend them to offensive operations.
Battle of Okinawa
The battle occurred on Okinawa Island and was against the United States’ marine and the Japanese one. This took place on March 26th – July 2nd, 1945, and was the greatest assault period (Eldridge, 2020). The army of the United States knew that the Japanese army was planning to use Okinawa Island as their hide spot, and that’s why they also included the officers of the naval to be prepared enough. The two teams were equally the same, and that’s why the war was rigorous. Significant number f people from both sides died, and also several aircraft and ships were lost.
In conclusion, the Pacific war is a renowned event that cannot be forgotten in American history. This is because it led to many people’s death, not only Japanese but also the American army, thus making it the greatest theatre of the war. The Pacific war resulted from the American army won against the Japanese army, which faced many deaths and losses.
