Meaning of a Good Life

One of the philosophical question that has triggered my thinking is the meaning of the good life. Indeed, one may be surprised by the responses he/she may get from people after posing the question on the meaning of a good experience. Have you ever asked yourself why people have different reactions to the meaning of a good life? Or have you ever imagined what good life is? Traditions, religion, and culture may be responsible for diverse definitions of a good life. Therefore, I find it worth to share with you the philosophical meaning of a good life.

Philosophically, living a good life means being courageous, selfless, principled, loyal, honest, and trustworthy. Although these qualities sound familiar to everyone, it is worthy to note that most people intentionally or unintentionally dispossess these qualities. A person is considered living a good life if he/she can practice the virtues mentioned above and be an ambassador of peace in every gathering.

There are people such as Socrates and Plato who can be used as examples of people who lived a good life in history. For instance, Socrates was determined and honest in everything he said, and gullibility was not his type. He stood for justice and forced the Greece regime to respect human rights and avoid using religion to molest humankind. Despite the threats Socrates received from Greece governance, he stood by his ambitions and faced death defending Athenians’ rights.

Religions such as Christianity and Muslims believe that people with morals live a good life. The religions have commandments that force people to be righteous, and those who abide by such commandments are subjects to rewards in later times. The honest people, the piety, will never be in vain and will be a blessing to everyone. Such people are considered to live a good life.

Thus, living a good life means hating vices and embracing virtuousness. Believably, people living a good life will receive a positive reward and take part in transforming an evil society since they speak and do the truth. These people preach justice and equity and ever ready for those in need of their service. People should embrace living a good life in a just, harmonious, and peaceful society.
