Introduction

The American independence story covers a lot of activities that historians have used to analyze over the years. Between the years 1767-1791, many activities sufficed that contributed to independence and post-independence measures met at this period in time. The other matter worth considering points to the handling of slavery and the American constitution during this time. Moreover, racial segregation issues also began being highlighted at this point. The following analysis seeks to narrate radical reforms during 1767-1971 and the historical occurrences surrounding racial reforms and slavery activities in a similar period.

The slavery activities post and pre-independence analyses

Notably, before independence, many Americans had joined in the fight to abolish slavery and the slave trade. Despite the southerners holding firm to their que, northerners had anticipated little gain from the trade, thus joined the fight for the abolitions of the inhuman act cutting across the United States of America. However, there was still a sharp division on the subject, especially among the slave masters who still made a kill from the trade and its process. As of independence in 1776, the struggle became more eminent and profound due to several reasons. First of all, the White community opposing the slave trade argued that it was inhuman for America to seek freedom from the British empire and get it and yet still hold fellow humans’ hostages and bondages as slaves. Many argued that the act was not correct. However, with the advent of the constitution, many changes were made that improved the slave trade and its related complications.

Revolution and radical reforms.

Historians face divide when discussing how radical the American revolution was. However, they agree that the revolution led to several sweeping changes that changed the American population’s political, social, and cultural landscape pre and post-independence. The first aspect of reforms resulting from the revolution looked when American reformists made life unbearable for the British colonies at the time. The reformists engaged the British in prolonged wars that compromised their stability and continued reign within the American territory. For example, there were seven years where war and terror were meted on these colonizers. The result was a debt-ridden English Colony with little or nothing to offer. Additionally, protests and other forms of reforms championing escalated during the same period. All in all, internal and external tax remissions reduced, forcing the British into talks for the American society and the nation’s independence as a whole.

Constitutional making and government

Newly independent colonies legitimized their governance structures by having a constitution in each state. The constitution became a written document that was binding, and all follow too. However, the constitution-making process was not uniformly executed. Some states had better-governing structures compared to others. For example, Pennsylvania had the most progressive constitution at the time. It allowed annual elections to continually evaluate its leaders and strengthen the parliament’s operations within its jurisdiction. All in all, the constitution that we have today can be attributed to our forefathers who had the best mind for peaceful co-existence and a prosperity driven approach towards making one.

Lastly, social changes were mainly experienced during this period. For instance, the only male who had a given amount of wealth were allowed to vote-white male. However, radical reforms later allowed males over twenty-one years to participate in the democratic process. Additionally, white females had no right to cast their ballots. However, the development changed, and a section of the white female population was allowed to cast their votes upon meeting the given criteria. Therefore, American society has undergone sweeping changes, and that is what is enjoyed to date.
