Big Five (OCEAN) Personality Analysis Criteria

Personality psychologists aim at understanding human beings by analyzing the traits that differentiate them and finding a necessary explanation of why they act as they do. For their analysis to have a concrete basis, there is a need for the collection of data in a criterion that makes it easy to carry out the needed analysis. The Big Five is a procedure that is used to determine the one’s personality in five major dimensions by through a statistical process known as the factor analysis. The five dimensions, which include Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism, emerge from the analysis data provided by thousands of people showing the accuracy of the model.

Summary of My Results

The results showed that I am somewhat conventional with my open-mindedness score falling below the average with a score of 37% which portrays a person who does not seek out new opportunities (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). The rating showed that I am humble with narrow interest and generally uncreative, which I agree with as these are traits I am aware that I portray.

The results showed a very high score of 98% in the conscientiousness test, explaining that I am well organized and highly reliable person (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). I agree with these results as I am usually very cautious with my actions since they determine that I will be making t in the future. I also agree with these results because I hold self-discipline with high regard, which comes along with being very organized. The results also portrayed a neutral score of 46% on the Extraversion test, which shows that I am neither social nor reserved (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). I partly agree with this observation as I tend to be more extraverted when I am in comfortable environments such as around friends. Again it is true that I am highly reserved when around people I am not familiar or comfortable with. Also, this happens when around people who appear to be toxic to me. The results showed a very high score of 91% for the Agreeableness trait showing that I am agreeable, courteous and highly supportive, which is a unique character. (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). Indeed, I Agree with these results as I value human dignity and try doing anything possible to help where needed. The result is agreeable as I appreciate sympathy depending on situations, forgiveness, courtesy and assisting others during challenging moments. Lastly, I scored very lowly on the Negative Emotionality bar, a score of 4% that showed that I am low-strung, secure at all times, and very calm in tense situations (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). I highly agree with the results as I can manoeuvre through hard and tight situations with ease, and I am very calm regardless of the status I am in.

Reflection on How I lead and Follow

From the scores I received from the Big Five personality analysis, I would make a great follower and leader in any given situations. These traits can be identified in me clearly and are of great help to every individual.  I would make a great follower since I am well mannered, less extroverted and somewhat conservative. All these are some of the characteristics of a good follower, and possessing them is a clear indicator that one belongs to the group (Diener, & Lucas, 2018). Also, the supportive trait would play a significant role in supporting my leader’s course fully and ensure that we succeed as a team. Usually, teamwork is the bridge between the organization and the workforce, and reliable cooperation means success (“Your Big Five Results”, 2020). I would also make an excellent leader since, despite being less open-minded; I have excelled in other traits that make great leaders such as calm during tense situations. Besides, I portray the dominant characteristics of conscientiousness and agreeableness. Also, from my qualities, I am more likely to be a transformational leader rather than an authoritarian leader (Hassan, Asad & Hoshino, 2016). Transformational leaders are known to adapt to any changes within the organization. They also have excellent leadership traits that I entirely possess.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I highly agree with all the results presented by the Big Five personality analysis model. The OCEAN traits scores reflect the qualities that I have realized about myself and what most of my close friends continuously identify me with. Although the accuracy level of the model may vary with every individual, the precision level of my personality analysis is very high. Therefore, I somewhat agree with these results as they reflect the real traits in me, especially as a leader.
