Management style
The list of theories and models that are used in leadership and management can be applied in many ways in adult care. They allow individuals to develop attributes or traits that make them influential leaders or managers. A great leader must possess a great vision, maintain integrity, honesty, and a clear focus. These elements are critical in leading other people. Others may not follow an individual who does not possess them within a given practice. On the other hand, a great manager must have attributes that allow them to manage human resources. It is different from leadership because it involves controlling an organization of various elements at the organizational level. My role as a manager and leader is to inspire people to achieve the goals of adult care. As a manager, I focus on critical functions within the practice. As a leader, I focus on roles that influence others to action.
I think my management style is more hedged towards the situational leadership model. The model is based on an adaptive leadership style. It encourages leaders to select a leadership model depending on the pre-existing conditions or circumstances evident in the workplace (Ronch, & Weiner, 2013). Once a leader has done this, they should select the model or theory that best fits their goals and circumstances. I use the leadership model since it allows me to choose from a wide range of leadership models. Doing this is in line with gaining optimal benefits from the wide range of available models. I also believe that adapting to different situations is critical when selecting a leadership model that can yield the best adult care outcomes. Such adaptation is in line with the situational leadership model. The reasoning behind it is that different situations would be best addressed using various management or leadership models.
