Effects on Relationships

In both cases, my relationship remained solid since both the styles brought an amicable solution for my family members and me. Comparing with my prior conflict, I can say that both the two conflict resolution styles reflect the ones we have used before communication is concerned.

Changes

Even though I have used avoidance and collaborating to manage conflict whenever they occur, I would like to change the form. In avoidance, I would not avoid talking about the problem again, as I have always done. Additionally, in collaborating, I would like to change how I commit to resolving the conflict. The two things I would like to retain in my styles are employing avoidance first before collaborating. Also, I will retain giving the other part-time to heal before resolving the conflict. The first step in making changes is deciding the best form of avoidance as a style, and then the second step is practicing.

Conclusion

Conflicts occur daily and need to be managed. Five conflict management styles are avoidance, collaborating, competing, compromising, and accommodating. The utilization of any of these styles depends on our personality, environment, and underlying temperament. My preferred styles are avoidance and collaborating. My conflicts involved family members. In both conflicts, I employed the two styles to resolve the disagreement. My relationship remained stable since the styles brought amicable solutions based on communication. The two changes I would make based on the form.
