(Gillies Hall peninsula) – Residential services at Monash University
Monash University has residential services that demonstrate a strong willingness and commitment to undertake voluntary activities, initiatives, and programs that contribute to the community life enhancement in Gillies Hall Peninsula. Monash Residential Services (MRS) have to provide and develop the environments within every location on the campus. MRS is responsible for dorms through a Residential Support Team (RST) who consist of Residential Services Team Officer (RSTO) and the Residential Agents (RA) who are like a mentor towards each other. Monash Residential services have a mission and goals to develop the Gillies Hall Peninsula by creating opportunities for interactions between members at a mutual and beneficial level, they have a goal to provide care, support, and enrichment in matters concerning academic, cultural, personal, and social terms, MRS has a goal to value and recognize diversities within each location on that campus.
Monash Residential services have the rights to all residents living at their sites, including Gillies Hall Peninsula, bound by the terms of their Residency and agreement. They have to pay all the required fees within the specified time and accept and acknowledge that they will follow the rules by Monash Residential Services Accommodation fee regulations, conditions, and other regulations listed on the MRS website. Residential agents at Monash University are expected to have obtained a Victorian Working with children check ( volunteer) card. They should have completed a Monash University Equal Opportunity online trading. They should be accredited with a Mental Health First Aid training and have fulfilled any designated MRS required training commitments that have been outlined on the appointment and application process. They do contribute to the creation of a Residential Support team within the Gillies Hall Peninsula. Their central expectation is as a model resident who promotes MRS values and expectations through their actions. The Residential agents should uphold and be a model example as well as ambassadors to their residence. They expect to inform their College Head of Information, which is essential to the community and the head of Monash University.
Diversity and Inclusion.
A residential agent is expected to develop and demonstrate diversity and inclusion. Diversity and inclusion involve the capacity to listen and sensitively be concerned with the students without judging. They should understand a way of dealing with privacy issues within the hall by following certain principles that underpin fairness and justice to the procedures. They should have a clear and better understanding of the principles of equity, equal opportunities, and social justice, and lastly, the residential agents should know commonwealth and Victorian Anti-Discrimination and Equal opportunity legislation and the essential University procedures and policies.
Residential agents who hold diversity and inclusion focus on providing a residential voice and helping in the implementation of programs within the Gillies Hall Peninsula. The programs are designed to help in supporting and promoting the benefits of an inclusive environment. If the Residential agents decide to choose diversity and inclusion, they are expected to achieve outcomes in advocating within MRS concerning the given experience they have of women in MRS; they also have to achieve the outcomes by providing innovative programs in diversity. Such programs may include sexuality, inclusion, and equity. Moreover, the Residential agents are expected to achieve outcomes by educating the MRS community in Gillies Hall Peninsula about Monash services, highlight the women’s rights, under-represented groups, get to achieve the liaison services related to disability within Monash and benefits of discriminations and environments that are free from harassing. Residential agents have to participate in the development strategies and policies that help the MRS community improve their experience concerning diversity and inclusion.
There are roles to be undertaken under diversity and inclusion with support and guidance from the Diversity and inclusion committee with the Manager of Resident Support Engagement and Developments. The residential agents are supposed to have a meeting with the Manager of Residential program s to come up with a development plan yearly, which is not limited to diversity and inclusion programs. They have a role in completing detailed and specialized training; they have to attend the resident’s committee meetings and be freely involved in relevant sub-committees. The residential agents have a role in communicating with all the representatives at the diversity and inclusion sector at their respective residential sites and broadly advertise their achievements; this can be through social media or even posters. The residential agents regarding diversity and inclusion have the opportunity to develop efficient leadership, teamwork, and communication skills for both the residents and non-residents. To contribute to any social change or community development in Gillies Hall Peninsula, they should have their participation recorded in the Australian Higher Education Graduate Statement and form a good friendship with students who are like-minded from different skills.
Environment.
Residential agents are responsible for being an environmental coordinator to give provisions of guidelines by the support system coordinator to help tailor their contributions in their residential communities to their specific needs that will be offered at full training and essential for their roles. The MRS is responsible for assisting the Resident’s agents in driving a cultural change in the residential community by taking environmental footprints measures. An environmental coordinator will have to run activities related to environments during the whole semester. The environmental coordinator should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work on social media platforms, should be able to analyses different problems and find solutions within the shortest duration of time, they should have the ability to inspire the residents of the community and lead them in a strong and self-motivated manner. Environmental coordinator have an aim to encourage participation in several events and information sessions related to the environment; they have an aim to provide leadership to the residential agents and MRS in Gillies Hall Peninsula through initiatives and programs that support environmental functions, they have an aim to report and participate in the Environmental Advisors Committee in MRS and have the desired knowledge about issues that affect the environment and how to affect cultural change.
The environmental coordinators have a role of providing environmental leadership and cultural change to Gillies Hall Peninsula residents through environmental management, events, functions, and several initiatives within the residential community through social media, meeting, directly visiting them in their communal areas, or either way working with organizations such as ADDO to develop cultural change initiatives to drive the given agenda. The residential agents (Environment coordinator) have a role in running several environmental functions at least two or more events per semester. Such environmental functions include Tree planting day, residential vegetable garden initiative, cleaning up of MRS Day, and environmental usage reduction. Besides, they have a role in maintaining a presence on the Environmental RA Facebook group of MRS and coordinate and attend MRS Environmental Committee meetings when there is a need to attend and a report is required.
Information Technology.
The MRS IT coordinators in Gillies Hall Peninsula assist the Residential Agents, especially when they have hard time-solving issues related to residents’ connection to the Monash IT network and their computers. The MRS IT coordinators have and aim in providing technical assistance promptly and the residents who are students in network IT issues. MRS IT coordinators have to participate and report in the MRS network Advisors Committee and encourage participation in IT-related functions and events, or have the responsibility of holding the functions over the network at the place of their choice. The IT coordinators should have good knowledge of IT policies at Monash University and adhere to them. They should have a high affinity with computer IT technology and related topics. Lastly, IT coordinators should have the ability to analyses IT problems and find suitable solutions. MRS IT coordinators in Gillies Hall Peninsula have the role to coordinate and attend to all committees associated with MRS IT when necessary and give the desired report. They have the role of maintaining an active presence in a group related to MRS Gillies Hall Peninsula to provide advice and support to the residents and create forums for IT-related discussions and events. Moreso, the MRS IT has the role of providing IT network support to all the Gillies Hall Peninsula residents by managing MRS ” IT Help ” their role account directly to their residential agent and their site manager to give solutions to any issues arising. They do have a role in running IT-related events per semester. Such events may include a LAN party or either way Information sessions.
Sports & Wellbeing Program.
Many of the residents at the Gillies Hall peninsula in the past had been committed to sporting activities. However, they did not have a central person to take over all this responsibility of sporting activities. The Manager Residential Programs who worked in collaboration with the residents’ committee of Gillies Hall Peninsula had to increase the integration of all residences at MRS and identify the best sports activities in the community. The role of Gillies Hall Peninsula Residential agent (Sports and well-being programs) works with the representatives of Sport and well-being from various residences to encourage sporting teams to participate and to acknowledge their efforts. They aim to increase residents’ involvement by supporting personal residential sporting teams and encouraging them to be spectators by displaying banners. They aim to establish timely competitions through a wide range of sports in Gillies Hall Peninsula residential. They liaise with Monash sport and other residential sites in organizing inter-campus events.
Residential agent in regards to the sports & well-being program coordinator has the role of communicating effectively in an organized manner with the sport representatives in all the residential sites in Monash University apart, including Gillies Hall Peninsula. They have the role of providing updates and sports results during events to the Manager Residential Prograregularlysis, plan, and promote every sporting event. Moreover, they have the role of attending residents’ committee meetings and be involved in sub-committee sports & well-being. They have to organize the sports award event annually with the assistance of the Residential Programs Coordinator and the resident’s Committee to ensure all trophies and certificates are printed on time and correctly. The Residential Agents sports representatives have a role of liaising with relevant persons from Monash Sport with a need to book and confirm that all their venues are set before the start of each semester, they aid in advertising events through different channels of communications, they have a role to meet with the Manager Residential programs purposely to develop a yearly action plan and assist in incentive programs developed to encourage the residents to take various roles in sports teams.
Respect.Now.Always.
Respect. Now. Always is a focus of the residential advisers who can deliver and do developments in educational programs and various initiatives for the MRS community. In Respect.Now.The MRS mission goals are always providing a culture that is of dully respect with support and total safety. The RA ( Respect.Now.Always ) gives a provision within individual residences and across. They are expected to achieve leadership provision outcomes and programs that are innovative in broad areas such as culture, sexuality, LGBTQ, and gender-based violence. They are expected to educate the MRS community about Monash services to support women’s rights, services dealing with disability and discrimination, and harassment-free environments promotions and benefits. The resident Agents ( Respect.Now.Always) are expected to advocate within MRS about how women in MRS experience. Finally, they have to participate in strategies development and policies that aid all community members in respectfully developing communities. The RA’S ( Repsect.Now.Always) undergo training and several programs appropriate to their positions and role by registering and completing at Monash University. The holders of RA (Respect.Now.Always) positions expect to promote the art of Respect actively.Now.Always message appropriately in Gillies Hall peninsula, they can always listen carefully and be concerned to the residents, respond to their questions without judging, be a champion in making Monash a safe and comfortable community for everyone and understand and be committed to supporting diverse principles both safe and inclusive at Monash University.
Respect.Now.Always programs establish, chair, and coordinate the MRS-wide resident through Respect.Now.Always Committee where they do plan and develop programs and initiatives through an act as a point of contact for all members of the community in MRS who can easily relate to harassment and discrimination issues with at least one holder as a female in RA( Respect.Now.Always).The RA’S Respect.Now.Always have the role of helping in planning and assisting with the coordination of MRS Respect.Now.Alway.They have to meet with the manager, engagement, development, and residential support to have a yearly plan in action every November, and this should not be limited to Respect.Now.They have to complete detailed training, attend residents’ committee meetings, and be involved in sub-committees. They have a role in enhancing effective communication with Respect.Now.Always representatives at Gillies Hall peninsula and finally advertise their achievements broadly and specifically the events through MRS social media.
Residential role.
Resident Agents expect being a model with exemplary behavior and conduct to others as ambassadors for their residences at Monash University. The Resident agents have the role of Community support in the Gillies Hall peninsula by demonstrating leadership and support to the allocated unit. They provide the first point of reference for all the residents in the unit into the Residential Support Team Officer (RSTO) to help them deal and solve the problems. They have engaged with residents respectfully and are aware of residents’ attitudes and patterns of behaviors according to units and floors. The Residential agent provides a living environment in the Gillies Hall peninsula by maintaining an effective relationship with residents and dealing with minor problems and conflicts that breach the university’s breach rules and regulations. More so, they help in community developments by actively promoting community life and participating, promoting, and supporting the cultural lifestyle diversity through various activities such as educational and having a strong involvement during orientation periods to the residents of the Gillies Hall peninsula.
The residential agents have a role of promoting and providing relevant information to the residents in Monash. This is done through notices distributions, filling of surveys generated by MRS, or won residence by following up with residents to have their forms completed and returning them. Promotions and information are developed by sheets, social media content, and newsletters to disseminate educational information and promote relevant activities. Social and recreational services are one of the roles of residents agents. They help in the support and guidance provided to the resident’s groups in the community. They play the role of organizing various activities throughout the whole residential year to and in community diversification. More their main role is to help Monash residents promote multi-cultural skills and academics in environmental initiatives considering the health and well-being of residents.
