Expansion of the vote was not as revolutionary as many Americans thought. Although more white men were now allowed to vote, white women and African Americans were still not allowed to vote. It seemed as though it was a targeted move to have only the white man express their opinions and views at the expense of white women and African Americans. Several reforms took place during the revolution; most states removed the requirement to own property to vote; this meant that poor people could now enjoy the right to suffrage. However, free black men could still not vote because states imposed a high property requirement on them. Also, voters could now participate in the gubernatorial and presidential elections, which was previously left for state legislatures to decide. Whereas states believed that expansion of the vote was a revolutionary step in the right direction, they still discriminated against other Americans in the lines of their gender and race.

Yes, I do agree that American society experienced a significant change during the Second Great Awakening. Americans could now experience religion without political influences. That involved their free will to choose a religion. Salvation was now more accessible to every person regardless of their gender or race, which meant that more white women and African Americans could now be involved in the church. It was an era of liberation as no ministerial training was required for a person to preach. Religion was no longer for the elite but every ordinary person. Therefore, many more people were reached with the word of the Lord, which created hope in many Americans, which caused a sense of relief and belonging.
