Thoughts and feelings about this chapter
This chapter focusses on how people to others and the need to forgive them for one to lead a happy life. Living with different groups, people is a challenge. We make mistakes to others and vice versa. This chapter has given real-life examples to explain what forgiveness is all about. It is essential to forgive people and let go; however, it is not easy to forgive people who do not admit. This chapter is important because it provides the essential steps to follow to forgive someone.
My thoughts on the author’s statement “As long as you hold on to anger, you’re letting someone who is no longer a part of your life control the life you’re living now.”
I agree with this statement because when one holds past bad memories instead of happily progressing in life, they will feel undermined by those memories. They will be living an old life, and their minds will be dominated by anger and filled with bad memories.
One idea that is my take-away from this chapter
“No one is perfect. We are filled with mistakes and flaws. Some of these mistakes constituent the large part of us.” This is because we all make mistakes, and no unless we work on our imperfections, they become part of us.
Three Steps to Forgiveness
- You are acknowledging that what was done to you is done. For example, if someone stole your money a couple of months ago, you do need to carry the pain with you for long. You have accepted that they took away your money.
- Do not allow grudges to control your life. For example, having a self-conversation about what happened and what the scenarios were will help you to have a better understanding and move on.
- Share your scenario with someone. By talking to someone can give a new understanding.
Bad Situations That I Have Moved On From Physically but Not Emotionally
A month ago, my friend stole my laptop. However, I forgave and relocated; I still feel that I lost someone.
Are there any old grudges weighing you down?
There are no old grudges that are weighing me down.
