The Growth of Walmart in the Vancouver Area is causing the Community to lose its Distinctive Character.

Walmart is denoted as an American retail organization that controls; discount department stores, hypermarkets, and grocery stores. Notably, the first Walmart store was established by Sam Walton in 1962. Walmart stores’ creation was to offer quality goods at affordable prices, make it the largest retailer globally, ensure that it assists customers in their saving notion, and accrue individual’s better living standards. The growth of Walmart stores in the Vancouver region is causing the Community to lose some of its distinctive characters since its existence is displaying alarming impacts on the greater Community. The effects include; community interactions, impacts on business behaviors, community culture, and resulting Community and small business harm.

The vast growth of Walmart stores in the Vancouver region has numerous negative impacts on small businesses and upcoming retail shops in the past years. According to Chang and Hu (2020), Walmart stores are attributed to low pricing of products, which acts as a beneficiary to low-income customers. The art of low pricing significantly impacts scaring away small businesses since most shoppers’ sides with shops that sell their products at a more affordable price. Therefore, Walmart activities, which ensure that they acquire lots of customers compared to other retailers, affect small retail businesses that are owned by members of the Community.

The art of low pricing significantly impacts scaring away small businesses since most shoppers’ sides with shops that sell their products at a more affordable price. This action relates to the time the community individuals in the Vancouver region prepare and commence their daily chores. Walmart stores run 24 hours an action that entails morning meetings and morning shift hours that require its employees to wake up early before 5 am to ensure their availability (Taghizadeh, 2017). The stores have greatly influenced the waking time of the community individuals who were fond of not waking before 6.00 am. Thus, the store’s serviceability has replaced the community art of commencing their daily duties, contributing to the Community losing its waking culture.

Also, Walmart stores have transformed the shopping strategy affiliated to neighborhood retail shops. Hocquelet (2016) insinuates that there existed different categories of retail shops and vendors who were eligible to sell a distinct type of commodity in the past years before creation and during Walmart stores’ growth. The item dealt with characterized the kind of shop or retail. The development of Walmart stores is slowly lessening the notion as the stores offer innumerable products under the same roof. More so, the stores’ rise is shattering the excellent rapport that has existed among the neighborhood shops and customers since the stores offer no much interaction between the seller and the commodity customer.

Conversely, despite the Walmart stores detrimentally affecting the Community, the stores have also enhanced the Vancouver community growth. The Walmart stores avail employment opportunities to members of the Community, an option that every grown individual is supposed to hold for better survival in the changing society. Walmart stores have employed a significant workforce that works on shifts to ensure a continuous serviceable platform to its esteemed customers (Lu, 2019). Also, income earned in Walmart stores assists in developing the community welfare, improving citizens’ lives, and aiding society in reducing individual idleness, which in return expedite negative factors.

At the same time, Walmart intervenes in community projects and activities. (Lu, 2019) Walmart dispenses relief to the Community at the expense of disasters. In the past few years, Vancouver community members have benefited from the store’s nature of offering grants and donations, including food, water, cash, and other essential products. Besides, Walmart is establishing community initiatives intending to reinforce neighborhoods and affected regions all over Vancouver. Thus, the setting of the stores has played a significant role in nourishing individual character and positively adjusting the living conditions.

Conclusion

The growth of Walmart stores impacts the Vancouver community’s livelihood and inflicts negatively on the community character. Growth and development of the store’s culture have considerably influenced most community individuals and also has transformed Community-related cultures that have been to exist for years. Nevertheless, the stores’ existence has improved the living standards of the community members and intensified the growth of society. More so, Walmart has also engaged in community upgrades and activities that accrue many resources to the Community. The innumerable losses portrayed by the stores outmaneuver the trivial benefits that it directs to the Vancouver community.
