Thoughtful Reflection
The underlying reflection addresses elements of the anticipated obstacles that have been incorporated by five objectives in line with personal practicum experience. It also explains the possible solutions related to the teacher’s preparedness and student achievements during learning.
- Development of A Personal Teaching Philosophy
The primary background for nurses is nurse education, which tends to explain roles, responsibilities, and the impact that the learners have in developing the profession (Karsten, 2012). In particular, every nurse educator’s goal is to make sure that he/she becomes an excellent teacher in the profession as this is the only way every specialist can provide the best of themselves for the coming days. For instance, one will need to be part of building and molding the nursing profession’s future by providing exceptional knowledge and skills for the nursing profession’s practicum advancement. Hence, the teachers’ shared experiences and knowledge with their learners help them identify their skills and experiences, thus taking nursing to higher levels. Furthermore, the only solution to the challenges experienced in healthcare is making sure there is a well elite workforce of nurses based on competencies in delivering the patient’s care as a priority. Hence it is the only way that there will be a transformation in the profession.
- Compare and Contrast Teaching and Learning Strategies
Several strategies are currently used in learning and teaching in the nursing profession; however, some are active while others are passive (Karsten, 2012). For instance, lecturing as a learning strategy is often used by most educators to teach the learners. However, it is, in most cases, considered to be passive and often used to teach large crowds by feeding them with new information at large (Christensen, & Simmons, 2019). In lecture strategy, most of the students get bored quickly as compared to high fidelity simulation, which provides learners with real clinic scenes which assists them in developing teamwork, critically-thinking, and competence at work hence keeping the chances of harming patients at work to below as to when they are taught through lecturing.
There is also an online learning strategy, where learners get knowledge and information through the internet and need not be physically in the classroom. This strategy is a cost-effective and flexible type of learning. However, when comparing it with the role-playing strategy, it seems to be more theoretical than practical. Role-playing helps the learners in conflict management and communication, offering excellent support and reflecting on each other’s practice. Debating is another important strategy that allows learners critically think and come up with clear presentations and research skills on different ideas that they are debating on, thus assisting their friends to identify specific areas where they had an issue during online or lecture learning.
- Teaching and Solutions to Problems Facing Nursing Education
There are several current teaching problems in the nursing profession; however, there are many ways to overcome these sectors (Christensen & Simmons, 2019). For instance, most of the nursing learners lack independence when it comes to problem-solving skills as they try to seek extra assistance from other people. Therefore there is a great need for nursing educators to assist learners with knowledge and skills in solving problems without referring to their friends while at work. There is also a problem with students getting the right knowledge and practical aspects, particularly for students who take online classes. Hence, when it comes to real life, they find it challenging to approach specific nursing careers. Nursing educators and instructors in charge of every student in the profession need to find and provide enough time for each of the learners to learn specific practical skills and techniques that will assist in handling patients in hospitals.
- Evaluate the Practicum in Terms of Knowledge Gained and Contributions to Professional Development
Practicum assists learners to apply the knowledge gained at class in practical applications. Hence practicum experience prepares learners from classwork to the professional field, simply because it’s through it that learners get to be assessed, selected, and approved into the profession by demonstrating exceptional knowledge and experience. Thus practicum provides an opportunity for the students to expand their knowledge and widen their skills as they move from being a student to a professional worker.
- Articulate the Scope Of Practice Of The Nurse Educator
A nurse educator’s scope ensures that there are values, theoretical framework within the profession, values, competencies, and the scope of practice (Christensen, & Simmons, 2019). Thus, it ensures that every student gains the required knowledge, attitudes, and skills in adopting and implementing the new ways in the nursing programs. The scope of practice for nurse educators also ensures that there is quality education for the students through assessments and evaluations of the learners in the profession to ensure common knowledge and practices that are effective and up to date.
