Legislative Issue

Florida Nursing Association (FNA) plans to introduce a legislature that will allow the use of automated pharmacy systems in community pharmacies. The legislation requires community pharmacies in Florida to adopt procedures and policies that will enable the use of an automated pharmacy system (Florida Nursing Association, 2020). The bill FNA plans to introduce will be sponsored by the following representatives; Daniel Kimberly, Davis Tracie, Fernandez Juan, Sabatini Anthony, and Willhite Matt. The legislation will allow community pharmacies to avail outpatient dispensing through the systems. An automated pharmacy will have to be under the control of a respective pharmacy. The community pharmacy installing an automated system will inform the Board of Pharmacy on the location of the system (Florida Nursing Association, 2020). The location of the automated pharmacy system will not necessarily be similar to the community pharmacy. However, the automated pharmacy system should be in control of a pharmacy that can be called upon for consultation.

Analysis of the Factsheet

The automated pharmacy systems legislature intends to solve problems attached to traditional pharmacies controlled by humans. Such pharmacies are usually repetitive, tedious, and cannot be performed without the possibility of errors (Alam et al., 2018). Dispensing robots in pharmaceutical services are effective because they can never be distracted and are less prone to error. In the legislation introduced by FNA, there is a need to ensure the automated pharmacy systems free up technicians and pharmacies for more important clinical services where human judgment is necessary (Alam et al., 2018). Presently, Florida does not have enough health care practitioners; hence the automated systems will create more manpower in the sector.

Participating in the Legislative Committee

One way of participating in the Florida Nurses’ Association legislative committee is through providing my ideas on the nurses’ platform. FNA legislative platform accords each individual an opportunity to participate in the legislative process and be part of the dialogue.
