The mission and the vision statements of any organization provides an insight into the roadmap of the given organization. They state the underlying path that the organization is undertaking. In addition, the mission and vision statements inform the audience and the staff of the values that are upheld and followed in that organization. This is besides defining the boundaries and the lengths of the functions of the organization. The purpose of this essay is to critically analyse the mission and vision statements of five organizations, weigh in the effectiveness and practicability and opine whether they are achievable.
The American College of Healthcare Executives is one of the professional bodies whose members are healthcare workers. The main goal of the organization is to promote the work of its members and to support them in enhancing healthcare. The professional body trains its members and provides them with a platform to advance research and acquire knowledge that is necessary in the healthcare leadership. Their mission of the organization is to advance the management excellence of its members and healthcare management. In essence, the brief mission statement points out to the overall work that the organization insists on carrying out: that of enhancing the work of healthcare management. On its part, the vision statement is concise and aligns to the mission statement. It states that their ultimate goal is “to be the preeminent professional society…” This means that they are focused on attaining excellence in the field of health management, making the vision and the mission informative and objective.
The National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NHCL) is a body of health professionals focused on instilling leadership skills in healthcare workers and people in charge of management of healthcare institutions. From their statement, the mission of the not-for-profit organization is to enhance the quality of leadership that will serve the healthcare needs of the 21st century. The mission is appropriate as it forecasts the work that the professional body is inclined towards in the modern era. The vision of NCHL is “to optimize the health of the public through leadership and organizational excellence.” Essentially, the vision statement informs that the organization is about serving the needs of the public within the healthcare niche, through enhancement of healthcare leadership. This makes it relevant in offering an overview of the actual practices of the organization. In addition to that, both the vision and mission statements of NHCL describes its activities, making them more effective.
The National Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executive aims at bridging gap in the professional leadership in the healthcare field. Their foci include representing the healthcare workers of the Spanish origin working in America, offering mentorship programmes to the medical workers and the promotion of public awareness. The mission of the association is written in point form, with the fundamental points being detailed. It provides the necessary insights that create a big picture of the functions of the association. However, it would be clearer if the mission statement was written in prose form. In addition, the mission has many filler words which clutter the message and do not add to its effectiveness. The vision of the organization offers a brief history of its establishment and the milestones it has made. This is as opposed to stating where the activities of the organization are heading and what it is bound to achieve. Hence, the vision does not really offer a clear path of its mandate and future goals as ideally ought to be.
The Institute for Diversity in Healthcare Management is founded on the premise of bringing together in a collaborative sense the players in the healthcare industry. The organization seeks to work together with communities and organizations offering healthcare services together with healthcare workers in order to increase healthcare quality that is offered to the people. The vision statement is brief and offers the primary focus of the organization. However, it is not written in the manner that it shows the vision is in continuity. To suggest that, it does not wholesomely indicate that the vision is set to achieve even the future goals. The mission is brief and tells the reader what the organization does.
The National Association of Health Services Executives focuses on the quality of healthcare provided by the black healthcare leaders. Its primary focus as illustrated in its mission is to enhance the quality offered by the minority. The mission is clear and precise on the membership and activities of the organization. Its vision is to continue representing the black healthcare givers by offering leadership skills to their respective industry leaders, making the vision statement useful in the message it conveys.
The vision and the mission statements of the above organizations are clear. They point towards the activities of the given organizations. More importantly, they achieve the “Importance of having a clear vision, a powerful mission and a guiding set of values.” (MacLeod, 2016). If I would be an employee of any of the organization, I would take it upon myself to follow the vision and achieve the mission. This is because the mission and vision statements are realistic and achievable.
The leader of National Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executive, who is the president and board chair, is Rolando Gome. He is a fit leader as he has ensured gender equality in his team. He has appointed directors from within the healthcare practice who are committed to realizing the vision of the association. Besides, he works closely with the government and other organizations to ensure that the association succeeds. In conclusion, he has managed to have a realistic vision that guides his leadership.
