LITERACY ON ANOREXIA

  1. Define Information Literacy

Information literacy empowers individuals to seek and evaluate, or create information to achieve social, personal, and educational goals. In the digital world, information literacy is a basic human right.

Three Research articles

Hendrijantini, N., Alie, R., Setiawati, R., Astuti, E. R., & Wardhana, M. P. (2016). The correlation of bone mineral density (BMD), body mass index (BMI), and osteocalcin in postmenopausal women. Biology and Medicine, 8(6), 319.

There are three peer-reviewed research sources that I have used. The first one is about the correlation between bone mineral density, BMI (). The article is peer review and gives a detailed overview of the subject. The article is a research article because it has research features such as detailed abstract, methodology and analysis, and conclusion.

Sivani, S., & Sudarsanam, D. (2012). Impacts of radio-frequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) from cell phone towers and wireless devices on biosystem and ecosystem-a review. Biology and Medicine, 4(4), 202.

The second article is the impact of the radio-frequency electromagnetic field from cell-phone towers. The article is a research article with an abstract, introduction, method, analysis, and conclusion; hence, it qualifies as a research paper.

Rizvi, M., Azam, M., Shukla, I., Malik, A., & Ajmal, M. R. (2011). Leptospirosis: an emerging disease in cryptogenic hepatitis patients in north India. Biology and Medicine, 3(2), 98-105.

The third paper is also a research paper and was chosen because it is related to the topic and even peer-reviewed. The authors are well-known, established authors, and they have published various articles in ad journals.

Literature Review

Lloyd, S., Yiend, J., Schmidt, U., & Tchanturia, K. (2014). Perfectionism in anorexia nervosa: novel performance-based evidence. PLoS One, 9(10), e111697.

The article fits a literature review on the topic since it contains many previous researches on the topic of Anorexia and provides a deeper understanding of the topic. It provides definitions of the problems on the topic.

            inappropriate sources

Anorexia nervosa. (2002, January 31). Retrieved from https://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Anorexia _nervosa

Anorexia: Signs, symptoms, causes, and articles for treatment. (2019, December 10). Retrieved from https://www.eatingdisorderhope.com/information/anorexia

The two articles are inappropriate because their authors are not known. On the other hand, their information is not referenced and is not from verified sources. The data and opinions are, therefore, not authenticated. The articles are from either individual blogs or chartrooms that do not qualify for academic purposes.

  1. Research Methods used in the articles.

The three articles have used quantitative research to analyze their findings.

  1. The difference between original research and literature reviews

The original research, also called empirical sources, include all sections of the paper, such as the introduction, methods, results, and discussion. The practical research article has an abstract that describes the problem, includes the participants in the research, and describes the study’s methodology. Abstract also has conclusions and implications of the study findings. In the introduction section, the problem being investigated is shown. The section also provides the purpose of the investigation.  Method sections give how the research was carried out and which procedures were used. In the reports and findings section, the analysis of the problem s carried out, then a summary and recommendations are made (Franko, 2018).

On the other hand, a literature review contains a combined previous published material to provide an understanding of the material and how research has progressed in the same area of study. Therefore, the literature reviews provide definitions of the problems, provide gaps and a summary of the previous investigations, and make suggestions on the next steps to be taken when solving the problem. Since most research is based on theory and analysis, reliable sources must be used to construct a research paper or do a literature review. Without reliable sources, the validity of the research can be questioned.

  1. Why inappropriate sources should not be used as a source of information

Inappropriate sources cannot be used because their authors express their own opinion without verified research or application of the scientific method. They, therefore, lack credibility and cannot be cited in a literature review.

Summary of the Literature review

From the sources, I have learned the relationship between perfectionism and Anorexia. The report analyzes the dimensions of Anorexia. From the literature review, all the articles confirmed that perfectionist was a requirement for Anorexia patients. The study was able to show the different types of AN, the Maladaptive, and adaptive perfectionist. All patients suffering from Anorexia have perfectionism levels (Berends, Boonstra & Van Elburg, 2018). Since perfectionism is a linked illness, it follows that there is a need for long-term multimodal therapy required. Since the is increased health risk and mortality in the population, it means that the development of a clear perception of the relationship between Anorexia and perfectionism is essential in developing the disease’s treatment (Dalton et al., 2018). When the treatment programs become effective, it means that an individual’s physical well-being is also improving.

From the studies, the disease has harmed the quality of life. Therefore a better understanding of the perfectionist may help in improving the quality of life for the patients. The discussions also imply that perfectionism is a factor that influences the treatment of Anorexia; hence clinicians must aim to treat and help lower perfectionism in patients suffering from Anorexia (Lloyd & Steinglass, 2018). In this regard, perfectionism may also be a risk factor for eating disorders in individuals; therefore, it should be considered when choosing the correct treatment for Anorexia patients. The relapse of Anorexia is also common among the treated patients; Anorexia patients should be encouraged to undertake any form of long term treatment that also lowers the relapse rate. The current conditions of treatment include family Based treatment is the most successful for treating such patients.
