ORGANIZATIONAL POLITICS

Question 1

In the contemporary world, one of the major problems that are affecting the organizations is the politics that involve the process of making decisions and also issues that involve the particular behaviour of people and specifically workers. The life of politics is envisaged in almost all the organizations worldwide regardless of their size. Some organizational issues may lead to the downfall of a company that has been making profits due to the fact that there are other vested interests for all parties concerned. Politics in the organization involve the use of power by the management who has the authority of control. Such battles have led to the negating of organizational goals and objectives, and as such, it may lead to losses.

At the places of work, organizational politics and power have been at play for a long time, and they have caused a lot of harm to the organization in such a way that many people have been affected. During my time, the issue arose because of the need to feel a scholarship that was provided for one person and further their studies in the field of accounting. Everyone was viable to the scholarship, but only one person was needed. The person who won the scholarship was a close friend to the managing director of the company, and that brought a lot of enmity between the management and the employees.

The primary players in organizational politics and power were employees and management. The issue at stake was the need to award the scholarship to a deserving person and on merit. It did not happen, and as such, the managing director was forced to vacate the seat, and so was the friend who was also denied a scholarship.

Question 2

Organizational politics and power is brought about by issues that revolve around many factors. Authority is one of the major drivers that give rise to politics and power to be at play. The managing director used is authority as vested in him to award a friend the scholarship. As such, the managing director had control over the issues that happened within the organization. Also, he was the highest decisive authority in the company, and very few people would object his appointment of the winner to the scholarship (Robbins, 1997). Besid3es, there was also a lack of good management that was more focussed on the role of leadership. The current management was only subjective and therefore made decisions that revolved around the personal gain.

Question 3

Some of the political behaviours exhibited in the organization during the handing of the scholarship are described as unofficial. The scenes that were observed showed that there was an increased assess of power at the management level, and as such, the managing director used excessive authority and in a bad manner (Luthans et al., 2015). Also, there was also a hidden targeted motive or objective towards the awarding of the scholarship in a way that demystified the trust that was put by the employees.

Question 4

Yes, I am for the answer that the participants acted in an unethical manner because of the need for a lack of prudence and disclosure. A managing director is a person who is trusted with the objective running of the organization, and as such, should be respectful to the office he holds (Robbins, 1997).  Also, the friend should not have accepted the scholarship because he knew well that he was not qualified.
