Agency Perspective and Role Order 899273
What are the traditional and practical approaches to the agency’s dealing with the problem?
In the contemporary world, community policing has become the norm, and it has been the most practical approach when it comes to the issue of ensuring that there is safety in the streets. Most of the traditional approached have been in existence to ensure that there is the prevention of crime or a repeat of crime from criminals who were reformed. As such, the problem for recidivism at the community level has been on the rise (Haviv, 2019). When offenders are arrested and prosecuted through the justice system, the corrections that are taken do not ensure a repeat of the crime by the offenders when they are put back in the community. The reason behind this is because of lacking support from members of the community. In the correctional facilities, the offenders or rather the criminals should be taught of how to integrate with the community and the society in general so that they are able to reform in the long run. Also, the community has to be educated on the need of offering the offenders needed support when they are released. The support can be shown by ensuring that they have good jobs and that they are not homeless.
By using the approach of engaging the community in a program that ensures the acceptability of the members, the development will be made in terms of forming a good reunion. Another way that the approach can be helped to work is by ensuring that the government is able to give many offenders parole. By so doing, the government gets the impression of the general feeling that the offenders may have when putting in the environment of people with fewer offences. The offenders will be able to get employment for them and as such, maintain a good working relationship with the community. The family ties will be put in place, and offenders will be empowered through the approach. The approach that may be used by the community based policing assures people of efficiency and fairness as well as justice.
Why is/has there been a reluctance to change approaches/strategies?
There has been a perception that has existed in the community for a long time that has been about the issue of the community been unable to change the offenders’ behaviours. The people at the community level who are entrusted with the correction and giving offenders support once they are back in the society think that the costs are high (Welsh, 2016). They have not thought of the taxes that people have to pay to the government so that offenders are punished using such systems. Incarceration has been deemed to be one of the most expensive ways of making corrections to inmates and offenders. The government has to house so many people indifferently areas which are costly. By using the community as the base for making corrections, the approach will have worked as a new strategy will have been formed.
The reluctance to change the strategy is also pushed by the government and the law enforcement agencies that are not supportive of the need of excluding the offenders. As such, law enforcement agencies bring about policies that they do not ensure their implementation. Such policies if implemented would have given positive feedback to the justice system to make strategy changes on how to treat offenders. Having an agency perspective put forward will ensure that the role played by both systems will bring about positive feedback in terms of the approach to be used (Bringedal Houge, 2019). Also, a change in the systems of treating system varies from state to state hence affecting the change of approach to be used. One state will be forced to use a certain strategy while the same approach will not apply to other jurisdictions.
What motivations would be required to affect a different approach or strategy (other than directly from a higher jurisdictional authority)?
The management of the community policing and especially the use of private security will require a new way to ensure that a different approach is reached. For one, there should be the existence of mandatory inclusion of parole in all state departments so that the offenders and criminals are ensured of a continued connection with their families. By so doing, the offenders will have time to engage in employment opportunities that exist in the community and hence get an assurance of being rehabilitated. Besides, the government should think of ways to ensure there is the making of policies that touch all the states in the US without neglecting states that have incarceration as their main way of making corrections to the offenders and criminals. Besides, the community should be educated on the ways to avoid retribution for people who were overly involved in committing criminal activities (Strauss-Hughes, 2019). By forgiving, the criminals and offenders will find it easy to engage in issues that affect the community and thus become better people. Moreover, the justice system that is in place should find ways of ensuring people and especially who have been in the incarceration centres are reformed in ways that focus on their personal development rather than just punishing for the mistakes committed.
