Professional Nursing and Creativity
One of the professional nursing organizations I would consider joining is the American Nurses Association. The American Nurses Association (ANA) represents the professional interests of more than 4 million registered nurses in America (The American Nurses Association (ANA), 2020). The organization appeals to me because it promotes the professional standards required in nursing practice, enhances the creation of a safe working environment for nurses, institutes the importance of following the ethical code of conduct, and advocates for health issues affecting the public (The American Nurses Association (ANA), 2020). The ANA is important to me because the entire organization possesses the power to push for changes in nursing practice. I am also interested in the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The AACN dedicates itself to enhancing the ability of acute and critical care nurses in creating a healthcare system focused on the needs of patients and their families (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), 2020). The AACN interests me because it is a specialty nursing organization that addresses the specific issues of acute and critical care nurses. Additionally, the organization has different chapters divided by state, and I will join the local chapter related to my location of work (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), 2020).
Creativity is defined as the capacity to think of new solutions and ideas to solve existing problems (Shahsavari Isfahani et al., 2015). Advanced nursing practitioners should generate novel and useful ideas in understanding existing nursing problems and developing creative solutions to make changes (Shahsavari Isfahani et al., 2015). The APN use creativity to uniquely identify challenge sin vulnerable and marginalized communities with the aim of introducing health promotion programs and reducing or eliminating health disparities and inequalities (Thomas et al., 2016). APN nurses utilize their creativity in developing new solutions within healthcare to solve patient problems using unique ways (Thomas et al., 2016). For instance, an APN could identify challenges in disease management among older patients and design tactics to educate them on the use of their smartphones to set alarms to enhance medication adherence.
