Work-related injuries

At the global and national level, while much has been written quantitatively on work-related injuries and their risk factors, including the sugar industry [60, 68, 71, 98-100], we find a few studies attempted to determine the workers’ health and safety measures practices at their workplaces in preventing occupational hazards in sugar industries.

Although many workers spend about a third of their lives at work, there are still poor working conditions, especially in developing countries, owing to the lack of simple preventive measures, such as safety measures. In recent years, workers worldwide face dual occupational threats in diverse work environments due to rapid industrialization, technological development, and globalization. The primary determinant of employees’ health is the quality of health and safety policies available at every workplace.
