It was a calm sunny Friday, and I was in my room preparing for the photoshoot that I had anticipated for almost my whole life. I was auditioning for a cover model position in the most popular magazines in the country, and this meant that my makeup had to be on-point. When it comes to applying makeup, I wasn’t a professional, but with my passion for this industry I had always looked up tutorials, and there I was putting all the skills I had acquired into use.
My skin has always relished the daily facial routines I usually follow to make sure it is still ready for makeup. I wash my face daily and gently massage it with a small amount of facial cleanser then later rinse it off thoroughly and pat dry. Furthermore, face scrubs are compulsory accompanied by a moisturizer which contains hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to provide long-lasting hydration.
Now that my face was ready acing, the face makeup was my first order of business before moving on to the lip and eye makeup. Things got quite complicated when I was confused if I needed a primer or whether the concealer came before or after foundation. Either way, I had time to take the guesswork out of the equation with my step-by-step guide to applying makeup from start to end.
Choosing a primer was one of the most incredible things I could do when it came to applying makeup. It helped me achieve an even canvas to work on as it provided smooth lines. I chose a primer that had a glowing finish since I have dry skin. Next, I blended a tiny amount of colour-correcting concealer onto the dark circles under my eyes; this audition had given me insomnia for several days. After that, I applied a flesh-toned concealer by buffing it into my skin.
My face would be incomplete without a little foundation, so for my dry skin, a radiant finish foundation did the magic. That marked the end of my face makeup, and now I had the lips and eyes remaining. For my eye makeup, I had to shape my brows into a perfectly-defined arch. I then used a golden eyeshadow followed by a waterproof eyeliner pencil and some final touches of mascara.
Lastly, for my lip makeup, I applied a crimson red lipstick after lining lips with the lipliner which the exact shade as the lipstick. And with that I looked stunning, I love doing my makeup, but that day I outdid myself.
Reflection
Since childhood, I have always been shy but very creative. It was at a young age that I realized I could be an artist too through makeup application. I love the process of wearing it and seeing the results as I had envisioned them. Makeup makes me feel composed by boosting my confidence level when I need it. The best part is that I can apply it according to how I am feeling; bright makeup for when I am completely happy and seeing the world in rose-coloured glasses or completely dark when I am down emotionally. It Speaks volumes about who I am.
