“Pharmacy professionals

The standard I have chosen is “Pharmacy professionals must communicate effectively.” It lets people make choices regarding their fitness, security, and well-being. Communication is more than knowledge, questions, and listening. It’s sharing details between individuals. Body language, speech rhythm, and pharmacy terms also lead to a successful conversation. It lets people make choices regarding their fitness, security, and well-being. Communication is more than knowledge, questions, and listening. It’s sharing details between individuals. Body language, speech tone, and pharmacy terms also lead to successful communication. (McDonough and Bennett, 2006)

The reason for choosing the standard is that if I communicate effectively with the patients, they will get the best possible care. If I communicate effectively with others involved in the patient’s care, I can share possible information with other professionals to improve patient safety.

Critical Analysis

To analyze the reflection models critically, I have chosen the following reflection models;

Boud’s triangular representation does not consider the prejudices you may have regarding the event, the need to look critically at various viewpoints, and there appears to be no clear indication that studying would result in a shift of assumptions, perspectives, or practice. You may legitimately address the query ‘what do or decide next time? ‘Responding, you’d do the same, but is that deep-level reflection? The model does not direct us as to what reflection could consist of or how learning might be transformed into practice. It will serve to match the main reflective issues. (Boud, 1985)

Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle creates a structure for exploring interactions. It applies itself especially well to recurring experiences with its cyclical nature, helping you learn and prepare stuff that either went well or didn’t go well. To objectively evaluate this model, developing your skillset is a reactive rather than constructive strategy; it may be a simplistic reflection since there is little connection to analytical reasoning, referencing the conclusions, or examining the scenario from another viewpoint. Doesn’t the model include any deep questions? Many individuals may have trouble speaking up and discussing their emotions. It fits better for a professional to help you through the process. (Gibbs G, 1988)

Kolb’s reflective model can bring emotional pressure on the consumer unless a leader or peer encourages them. This model doesn’t understand the position of unrequested peer reviews. Moreover, the reflection method itself is very individualistic in focus (it doesn’t enable the learner to ask for input from others); the outcomes may be too one-sided. (Kolb, 1984) It doesn’t understand cultural influences or gender disparities ability. The four-stage approach is very simplified, not reflecting human thought. (‘Reflective model according to Kolb’, 2015)

Reflection Model

In this essay, we are going to discuss Gibb’s reflective model. I have chosen this model because this model provides a structure for exploring interactions. It is especially appropriate for recurring experiences with its cyclic existence, helping you learn and prepare stuff that either went well or didn’t go well.

Reflective Account

To prove the chosen standard, “Pharmacy professionals must communicate effectively,” I completed my reflective account by following Gibb’s reflective cycle.

I was in the first semester of the Mpharm course. We had the team virtual placement. We were supposed to work from home. Our group had six members. Our professor assigned us to prepare drug charts, patient clerking information, and a complete pharmaceutical care plan for an asthmatic patient. We were worried about how to complete the given task in two hours. So, we decided to split the work into three sub-groups.

As a pharmacy professional, it is necessary to communicate effectively, whether with patients, staff, or other healthcare professionals. However, while working on the project, I realized that maybe I could not communicate with my fellows effectively.

I was supposed to prepare a patient clerking information sheet from the notes that I already had. I prepared such notes on the last hospital visit. This was the first time I was being assigned to prepare a patient clerking information sheet. I was a bit worried about how to manage it. My fellows had already done such a task. I wanted to ask for help, but I hesitated and couldn’t ask them. That day I realized, maybe there is some deficiency in my communication style.

Then, I gathered the courage and asked my fellows how to proceed. They guided me well about summarizing the points, and surprisingly I completed the patient clerking sheet in an hour.

We still had half an hour remaining to submit the project. To evaluate my learning, I asked my fellows to communicate with me and let me know my weak points about communication skills. I frequently started to note down my weak points, worked on them to make my communication skills better and effective next time.

Then we shared all that we have done. In the end, we had a complete pharmaceutical care plan for an asthmatic patient. It was not possible if we hadn’t communicated so effectively. Our professor was delighted to see our work. He appreciated us in front of the whole class. That day I learned how to communicate effectively with other fellows. I came to the decision that I must add it to my daily routine. I started practicing it with my fellows daily.

I conclude the situation by describing its goods; if I couldn’t have communicated well with my fellows, we couldn’t have completed our project in such a short time. After this experience, I have learned how to communicate with other fellows effectively.

Action Plan

Then I decided to communicate with all my fellows and other healthcare professionals. In this way, we can achieve our desired goals. I discussed the whole situation with my other fellows as well. All of them considered making their communication skills strong too. They appreciated me for evaluating my learning as well.

Conclusion

One of the standards of pharmacy practice was taken that shows how to communicate with others effectively. For reflective account, the scenario was presented according to Gibb’s reflective cycle. I described the whole experience, my feelings and thoughts about it. Then I did my evaluation and analysis about the experience. I have also given a brief conclusion about what I have learned and set my future goals to communicate with my fellows effectively to achieve our goals.
