The author is trying to urge the most potent points that come out of his speech. The author is known as Fredrick Douglas. In his remarks, he utters about the hypocrisy of the nation at large in terms of the people celebrating the freedom they have against the slavery activities that their people are subjected to. He has that about 4 million citizens are being detained as slaves while they are being told that they are free and have attained independence to implement their affairs when it comes to them as a nation. He rebukes those people that are celebrating their freedom at the expense of the other citizens suffering from slavery, thus opens up the eyes of the people that they are still not yet where they want as citizens of the United States because it is not over until everything is completely done with to show that they are free (Husband, 2018).
The purpose of the argument brought about by the author, who is the one delivering the speech, is to make the people view the essence of them having attained independence just by the word of my from their colonialists not completely done. He is unwinding their hypocrisy that they know what is going on in the country, and it shows that they are not free if their countrymen are suffering from slavery (Hill,2020). The argument is made by a leader, Fredrick Douglas, who invokes the audience who are the people that they should open up their eyes and not be swayed as their fellow countrymen are suffering.
The speech in the argument came about due to the American citizens, who were nearly 4 million I number working as slaves. The colonialism had declared it an independent country, which was somehow contradicting.
The style that the argument takes is informed of a rhetoric analysis considering the purpose, the audience, and the medium. All this was inclusive with the context that the communication was taking into place. With the rhetoric appeal like the Pathos, the author of the speech starts his speech utilizing persuading the emotions of the audience through asking them questions; for instance, he asks for permission to ask a question (Leeman, 2018), “Fellow citizens pardon me allow me to ask.” He uses a form of language appealing to the emotions of the audience
He uses a logo of information style when he logically implements the sense of reasoning o the audience. He asks them why they are behaving hypocritically when they know that they have their countrymen suffering. He implies the same to impact reasoning that they are not free as they were still pending issues. He utilizes the Ethos to show them the credibility of what he is saying; thus, the audience, who are the citizens, should abide by what he was saying. He says to them they should search for any shameless act and when it is done, then let them change and see how far they will go far as a country without competition.
