Democracy
I find democracy as the most outstanding idea in Lye’s overview of IDEOLOGY. Democracy is termed as the natural rule of the majority. This is where people have a say on what to be done and who represents their ideas and beliefs at a particular point. It is viewed more as a political system adopted by many countries to steer their progressives agendas. It’s natural because it’s assumed and inspired by numerous people. Though to some extent, it contains some contraindications that the views and interests of minorities are overlooked, however much they may be of greater importance.
Some of the benefits of democracy as an ideology are; protecting the interest of majority citizens. This is seen during voting, where people can have a say on issues affecting them. Democracy promotes equality, inhibits the misuse of power by elected individuals, creating stability as it has sets of laws and rules to balance nature. Due to the key role democracy is playing in today’s society. I find it relevant to discuss it in-depth.
