Ways to minimize barriers to communication

Introduction

Communication barriers affect both personal and professional lives. Despite how good communication could be, obstacles do occur. They could be anything preventing the proper delivery of the message. They include language barriers, emotional barriers, or physical barriers. In this essay, ways to minimize the communication barriers are discussed effectively.

  1. Use plain language.

Everyone should have the habit of using a common language whenever possible, and it does not matter who you are talking to. People tend to use large vocabularies to sound intelligent, but this causes miscommunication. Inability to use words that a person can understand makes communication ineffective.

  1. Know your audience.

It is essential, before communicating, you understand the language, cultural background, gender, age, and level of education of your audience. It will be easy to know how and what to communicate to them.

  1. Emotional state.

There is more to what the body communicates besides what is spoken. This involves making effective use of body language. When something sorrowful is said, do not show a smiling face as this confuses the audience on what exactly should they receive your communication (Barkov 320). Normalize using correct body language in every expression.

Conclusion

To communicate effectively, being familiar with the barriers and how to overcome them is critical. You can use this article to reflect on the few mentioned ways to minimize the communication barriers to convey a clear message.
