Life events that significantly influenced my personal, academic, and career growth essay
From an early age, I was certain of what I wanted to achieve in life, a smooth life for my children. I come from a big family raised by two parents with no stable income source and worked so hard to make life bearable for us. My father was diagnosed with a permanent disease when I was only five years old; thus, my mother had to raise us and take care of our father independently. I watched her take multiple and draining jobs to take care of us. When I was ten years old, I started doing chores in my neighborhood like dog walking and watering the garden to help mum with some of our basic needs. At this time, my father always encouraged us to work hard in school and even helped us with our homework. He was so good in math that I always went to him for tutoring. It was at this early age that I realized the importance of good education and also financial planning. If my father had bought an insurance policy, we would still have been better off living than that the way it was. Lack of information on the importance of making the right financial planning decisions fueled my passion for getting the best education to afford my children a normal childhood.
Our home’s financial circumstances forced me to grow up early and take up responsibility. my mother was a cleaner and did a night shift as a waiter in a food joint. She also operated a small mobile ice cream joint which she would pack outside our school. The business was not a boom, but it assisted in taking care of our bills. I would regularly help with the ice scream job after school and sometimes accompanied her to cleaning jobs. When I was fourteen, my grandparents visited and requested to take my father, two of my siblings, and me to their place for the summer. There, I met a daughter to my grandparent’s neighbor, Davis, who was partially blind but still managed to do her crochet business effectively and with great zeal. She was a soul that set a perfect example of following one’s dream no matter the situation. We became close, and her story inspired me to the point that it became my motivation source. I have always been writing and playing football but had always neglected to help my mother with the bills. With Davis as the motivation, I spare more time writing in my diary and attending football lessons. The two hobbies have significantly impacted discipline, ethics, and moral standards in my life than no class lecture could ever do. In addition to my hobbies, we teamed up with Davis and a group of her friends to collect and donate clothes, blankets, water, and food supplies to the people living in the streets. At first, I was just into the donating part but never liked the idea of visiting and being with the homeless people while giving them the gifts. One group member once could not attend the event, and I had to fill it up for her. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do, but all that changed when I saw the excitement of one particular kid who lived with her mother in the streets when he saw us approaching them. The boy was barefoot, and his sweater was wet. We gave him clothes, and the new look made him so happy. At that moment, I realized that I had trapped myself into thinking that I was the most vulnerable in life. I learned to appreciate what I have, which immensely helped me focus on my studies and goals. I also realized that many people had realized their dreams by mastering the art of asking and nurturing a positive mind. That is when I first thought of applying for a scholarship for my studies.
With the challenges I have gone through as a child while growing up, the lessons that all the events have taught me have emerged robust, determined, and more focused to achieve my dreams. As a child, all I wanted was to afford a decent life for my children; contrary, today, my dream is to make a difference in society. Be a source of inspiration to more than just my children, use my writing skills to educate the community on the things that will help them and their offspring, and also indulge in social and community service to the less fortunate. Education is indeed the key to great doors of success, and I believe that you will be funding more than an academic or career goal and a lifetime project with your project. To see my dreams come true, I am also taking part-time jobs like tutoring and babysitting to save up for my education. I already have the right mentality and the right passion for the same. I hope this scholarship will come through for my dreams too.
