Assessing A Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation

Healthcare Program/Policy Evaluation Tobacco Control and Prevention Program
Description             This healthcare program is focused on cutting off the effects of tobacco for the well-being, safety, and health of people. The program is aimed at educating teenagers on the dangerous effects associated with smoking. It also emphasizes the fact that passive smoking is more dangerous than active smoking. It has been helping in the enforcement of tobacco laws (Abraham, Bagwell-Adams & Jayawardhana, 2017, p 15).

It is meant for monitoring the use of tobacco and prevention policies, offering help to those trying to quit tobacco use, and protecting people from tobacco smoking.

How was the success of the program or policy measured?             The success of this program was measured through report reviews and its completion. Various agencies gave out reports containing the tobacco usage data, which were used for the formulation of the reports. They also indicated the methods used to help individuals trying to stop smoking, for example, giving out patches, gum.
How many people were reached by the program or policy selected? How much of an impact was realized with the program or policy selected?             In the past six years, smoking reduced 18% from 19.2% to 15.7% of adults (Jamal et al., 2018). There was a high impact as many people decided to quit smoking. Furthermore, the number of youngsters smoking or using tobacco products declined. Many people registered in the substance use disorder treatment to help overcome tobacco usage.
What data was used to conduct the program or policy evaluation?             Data was gathered by conducting surveys which helped in generating multiple reports. These reports are available online.
What specific information on unintended consequences were identified?             There were a few problems faced during the implementation of strategies used for the no-smoking projects in certain work environments (Ahluwalia, Arrazola & Graffunder, 2017). Also, some people tried to manipulate the rules while others refused to follow them.
What stakeholders were identified in the evaluation of the program or policy? Who would benefit most from the results and reporting of the program or policy evaluation? Be specific and provide examples.             The stakeholders identified were; nurses, healthcare providers, Department of health and human services, and healthcare educators. The department of health and human services would benefit from the results as they are responsible for allocating funds for the program. It will help in proving that the funds used in the program were justified despite the challenges faced.

Healthcare educators and providers would also benefit from the report as they can use it to determine the help needed. They could also use it for training sessions. They would know where to apply reports when treating patients with substance use disorder.

Nurses would also benefit from the reports as they would apply the information while treating patients associated with tobacco use.

Did the program or policy meet the original intent and objectives? Why or why not?             Honestly, the program met the original intentions. The number of people using tobacco products declined as perceived. It was achieved through this program as it educated people more about, use of tobacco and its effects.
Would you recommend implementing this program or policy in your place of work? Why or why not?             I would recommend the tobacco control and prevention program in my place of work. It will help in the prevention of many chronic diseases such, lung cancer (Carroll et al, 2016). It will also prevent premature deaths caused by tobacco usage. Implementing this program will mean that we are advocating for a healthier lifestyle with little or zero tobacco effects. I feel that it is worth trying to create a positive impact on others.
Identify at least two ways that you, as a nurse advocate, could become involved in evaluating a program or a policy after one year of implementation.             I would perform the reviews and help in collecting the data that is needed to complete the reports showing effectiveness.

I would combine the information gathered in order to produce the reports that will determine if the program was successful.

I would use questionnaires on the people who have stopped using tobacco due to the program and collect the data required.

General Notes/Comments             Usage of tobacco is harmful to health. It is important to implement programs which in preventing the use of tobacco.
