Earth science studies and defines the physical formation of the earth and its airspace. The research connects chemistry, biology, mathematics, and physics, thus bringing insight into its physical make-up. Examples of earth science explanations are oceanography, geology, and astronomy (Tarbuck, Lutgens & Tasa, 1997). However, the explanation of earth’s formation in the creation theory (according to scriptures) contradicts earth science provisions. The formation of everything that exists on earth just by word of mouth by a ‘superior being’ (God) beats all logic provided by earth science.
Oceanography covers marine life, currents and waves, sediments’ movement, the seafloor, and its geology. The scripture states that water bodies were formed by just word of mouth. Other instances do not seem applicable according to earth science- for example, when Jesus walked on water. Scrutiny of water’s characteristics would reveal that it is impossible for a human being to float on water. When there were fierce waves in the water, and Jesus calmed them by word of mouth is impossible in earth science. Such natural occurrences can only be solved by other natural occurrences in the water bodies (oceans), neutralizing them. For instance, strong waves could be calmed if the prevailing winds became less fierce or if an equally strong breeze blew in the direction opposite to the initial one.
The geology perspective of earth science is concerned with studying rocks that exist on and below the earth’s surface. These rocks can be sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous (Tarbuck, Lutgens & Tasa, 1997). The earth’s history and pre-history should have their evidence still in the earth’s crust. There would be evidence in variables such as the layers of rocks that have sedimented or formed over the years. However, the creation account devastates any geological efforts because they suggest that existence and pre-existence could not be proved because they both happened simultaneously.
Earth science and its components of oceanography, geology, and astronomy remain the core explanations of a logical explanation of earth’s existence. However, the Bible has very contradicting views and perspectives of the same. This breeds a conflict in beliefs, leaving most people in a dilemma of explaining earth’s existence. However, most earth science concepts have contributed towards the foundation and development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM.
