- Describe the problems you discern in this situation from the brief facts provided.
After Jorge was hired as a manager of some novel global teams, he went ahead to hire most of his previous employees. Even though the employees had worked for him at his last place, the gas exploration company, Jorge had no point in hiring them. This is because the process of employment was unethical, according to the ASI employee handbook. The handbook states that the company employs workers based on how capable they are from a diverse pool of applicants, which was not the case. Additionally, there was no representation of global clients’ diversity since all the employees were from North America. Second, Jorge made all the decisions by himself then passed them to the team. Instead, the decisions would be well if made as a team. Third, the internal conflicts were problems in the situation that required to be handled.
- Please describe how the global teams in India are managed versus how they should be addressed.
Global teams in India are managed to observe religion and religious practices according to the team members’ rules. Additionally, cultural practices are followed to ensure every team member is catered for as desired. Also, family commitments are recognized. In this case, there is flexibility in matters of family emergencies (Emeralds, 2020).
Global teams in India should be managed by first ensuring national and religious holidays are honored. Each member of the group has specific national holidays they honor and spiritual practices they observe. It is right to be aware of them. Second, cultural differences among the team members should be handled correctly. Being a global team means a team of diverse cultures; thus, a proper way of managing them should be created. Third, neither assumptions nor stereotypes should be made to ensure peace and harmony in the team. Finally, the team leader should check in with the team and ensure they check in with each other. The process ensures work is done and peace is promoted (Clark, 2018).
- Apply global HRM concepts from your reading to the hiring of the teams.
First of all, selective hiring will be done. The right people for the job will be employed. The employees will be assured of security, which is part of the global human resource best practices. The teams will then be made self-managed and effective. Additionally, training will be offered in relevant skills. Fair and performance-based compensation will be provided. Finally, the information will be made easily accessible to all in need of it (Vulpen, 2020)
- If you had been Jorge, how would you have applied all of the cultural adaptation concepts from your reading and learning activities areas that would fit this scenario at the outset to help the team members and their families be successful in adjusting to India?
I would use the Ecological Validity Model, which is a beneficial cultural adaptation model. It stipulates the need to deliver minding the cultural dimensions of language, goals, methods, content, and context, among other measurements. Furthermore, I would use the principles of Community-Based Participatory Research. These principles would be necessary to co-implement the adaptation procedure with stakeholders’ active participation, community leaders, and the ultimate recipients of the intercessions (Cardona, 2020).
