Joseph McCarthy’s Speech on Communism

Joseph McCarthy’s speech dates back in 1950 during 141st Abraham Lincoln’s birthday celebration in American history. She was in charge of permanent subcommittees on investigations. She investigated communism in the federal government and among government employees. She was and remained to be the most hated person in American political memory. He scorned the malicious and narrow-minded dictatorial spirit represented by the communist class. In this chapter, we analyze his words during his speech and their relevance in ending communism.

According to McCarthy, communism is influenced by influential people in high positions who have benefited so much from their betraying. Ironically, they have been given much from the country, so they are supposed to protect it. Still, rather they are crossing by the government instead of the less fortunate or members of minority groups, but rather those who had all the benefits that the wealthiest nation on earth offers. McCarthy reiterates that America is the physically strongest, powerful intellectually and morally, which means that it should use its position to build itself up and help other nations. Still, instead, it has failed to use its position to do so. Those in power should wake up and protect their country, otherwise, in the future, their nation will have nothing to offer if they destroy it.

It is rhetorical that McCarthy asks people if they are blind to see that there is war in their nation and arise to stop it. People are indeed blind to see what is happening in their government, otherwise, they would have done something to stop it. It can also be true that the people see what is happening in their country, but they can’t stop it, as they also fear for their safety if they raise the alarm. Since this is a Christian state, it should use the doctrine to prevent any evils rampant in the nation, unless the citizens have lost the understanding of Christianity or have totally and openly rejected the communist revolution.

McCarthy observes that for the nation to stop communism, the citizens should elect good leaders in those high positions to be protected; otherwise, they will be headed in the same direction of communism. Anticommunist leaders should vie for those positions and be elected in those positions. The citizens are also supposed to raise the alarm in case of wrongdoing by the leaders to be safe. People in higher office will always protect one another, for example, like the secretary of the state who is believed to have backed someone who is believed to be guilty of many crimes, the secretary justifies his continued support to a man who sold Christianity to atheism. This is evident that those in power do not care about the common citizen, meaning the citizens should be vigilant to their leaders and condemn where necessary.
