Resort Concept
Hotels and resorts are different institutions, although they share some attributes. The shared attributes make of the hotels and resort usually make many people think that they are the same. Be that as it may, a resort and a hotel have unique features that make them different. A resort refers to an establishment that can provide for all the travel needs of individuals and families in one place. In a resort, an individual and families are able to get food, drinks, entertainment and shopping, all in one place and without a need to leave the facility. Swimming pools, gym facilities, sports courts, and other entertainment facilities are some of the entertainment amenities that may be found in resorts (Suchada et al., 2018). On the other side, a hotel is a facility or an establishment that provides basic accommodation services, including rooms and food and drinks. Hotels do not ordinarily provide entertainment to their clients. Thus, the primary difference between hotels and resorts is on the range of services that they offer. Resorts offer a lot more services than hotels, and this means they target and attract different clientele. While hotels target individuals who are on business trips and who are only in need of accommodation, resorts target individuals and families that are traveling for pleasure. For instance, if a family is traveling to Asia for a tourist visit, the best place to put up is a resort rather than a hotel. Additionally, a resort is mostly suitable for a family stay rather than an individual stay. The facilities that are established in a resort are suitable for family stays. Finally, resorts are suited more for long-term stay than short term vacation. Suppose an individual is seeking a place only to spend a night, the best place to stay in a hotel rather than a resort. From the description above, there is no doubt that there are unique differences between hotels and resorts that make them suited for different purposes.
An interview of two stakeholders in the hospitality industry, Josh DeBottis, and John Murtha, is critical in the evaluation of the differences between a hotel and a resort. From the beginning, John says that one of the major difference s between a resort and a hotel is the client expectation. Having worked in both a hotel and a resort, John says that the expectations are usually higher on resorts than hotels, and this makes the management approach to a resort to be slightly different from the management of a hotel. Since it is likely that clients will stay at the resort for a relatively long duration, it is their desire to receive services and products that are of the highest quality levels. John proceeds to say that in resorts, guests are paying for the experience, and it is upon the management to provide the guests with an unforgettable experience. Deductively, from the assertions of John, resorts are costlier than hotels. The reason for this is because the individuals demand a high level and satisfying experience, and that comes with added costs. From the explanations of Josh, resorts present new challenges and fulfillments every day to the people involved while in hotels, everything appears like a routine, and there are no significant changes in the scenarios that may present the different challenges to the management of resorts. It is evident that clients at resorts come with different levels of quality demands, and the management is supposed to make sure that the unique needs of each client are met. Since clients may have varying expectations from each day, there is no doubt that each day presents new challenges to clients that must be met. On the other side, hotels provide standard services to their clients.
In an article titled Resort vs. Hotel: Getting the Most out of Your Vacation, Welk Resorts (n.d) states that there are significant differences between hotels and resorts. To start with, the article states that when one wants a place to relax, have fun, and achieve the highest level of satisfaction, a resort is the best place to visit. The article says that “the main difference between a hotel and a resort is that hotels are usually just a place for lodging while a resort allows for more privacy, entertainment, and experiences during your stay” (Welk Resort, n.d). However, the article also says that not all resorts are better than hotels in the provision of services that are satisfying. The article says that there are many resorts that do not have the basic qualities that make them capable of delivering services that will satisfy the needs of the clients. Thus, the article suggests that for one to get maximum satisfaction from a hotel or a resort, there is a need to evaluate each facility independently and seek the one that has facilities that will allow them to obtain maximum satisfaction. It is not right to assume that all resorts are better placed than hotels to offer satisfaction to clients. Some of the things that individuals need to consider include the location of the facility, the size of the compound, the rooms available, and the privacy of the facility.
