Introduction
Fairfield County, the state of Connecticut, is a town north of New York City and a common destination for visitors. The town was founded 300 years ago and has an estimated population of about 25,000 (“Welcome to Ridgefield,” 2020). The town has a historic main street stretching for a mile and ranks high in Connecticut’s school system and security.
Neighborhood boundaries
Ridgefield town is bordered to the east by Redding, Lewisboro to the west, while North Salem and Wilton border it to the north and south. The town is located between the affluent communities of Danbury and Wilton in Fairfield County. The town is an excellent hub for businesses and is designated as a commercial and residential neighborhood. Ridgefield’s Main Street comprises stately homes, Museums, Churches, and Shops and stretches for about a mile along a ridge of 750 feet above sea level. Any name does not identify the community’s community as consisting of all types of races and ethnicities.
Housing
Ridgefield is a town that was founded around three years ago, and thus most of the buildings bear Dutch colonial architecture. Other architectures present in the town include shingle styles with a gambrel roof and two-story residential building. The town is not populated, and most families that live are a mixture of single and multi-family. Most residential buildings have about 150 square feet in size, and commercial buildings occupy about 200 and above square meters in size. The town is clean and has well-kept grass lawns with sidewalks and no abandoned lots. The town is not much populated, and one spot vacant houses are advertised for letting.
Open Spaces
The town has expansive open space with well-kept grass lawns and several trees. Ridgefield has many athletic fields and beautiful parks for recreational use. It has many wooded park trail that people take a relaxing walk or bike hikes. Swimming and beach activities at martin park Beach and Serene Ballard park offer beautiful oriental gardens comprising mature trees. Playgrounds for children include the recreational center and Ballard Park. There are also tennis courts and skate parks available.
Protective Services
The town has the Ridgefield Police Department that employs 41 sworn officers and nine civilians and is established in 1955. The town has a fire department headed by a fire chief and has two fire stations, namely Ridgefield fire department and Ridgefield fire department station 2. Several fire hydrants can be seen beside walkways in the town. Many homes in the town have security with alarm systems installed at the gates of most residential. Ridgefield police department’s crime prevention unit sponsors a neighborhood watch program
Neighborhood
Ridgefield town consists of many restaurants, coffee shops, and a beach frequented by many visitors. The town consists of 5 largest ethnic groups in Ridgefield, CT, where whites comprise 86.9%, Hispanic 5.31%, Asians comprise 1.8%, African American 0.54%, and Native American at 0.11% (“Ridgefield,” 2020). There are also other races, such as Pacific Islanders and Latinos. Homeless men are seen sleeping near the sidewalks. The town has several restaurants, coffee shops, and shops. Drug stores, groceries, and liquor stores are also evident. World-class country inns and modern restaurants are evident in the town. The streets are clean and have well-kept grass lawns. Public transportation is provided by the metro-north railroad that serves Branchville station and Housatonic area regional transit shuttles serving Ridgefield daily from Danbury.
Schools
Public schools in Ridgefield include six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. There are 4 top private schools in Ridgefield, serving about 682 students. Ridgefield is known for its quality education ranked highest in the state. Several playgrounds are found in the town, including Ballard Park, woodcock nature center, Bark Park, Trassig Corp, and Putnam memorial state park.
Human services
Healthcare services in the town are served by Ridgefield medical center, Danbury Hospital, and Physician One Urgent Care. Alternative medicine is served by Dr. Deb Bossio, naturopathic physician, Fairfield naturopathic health, and balance natural medicine. A town hall for social welfare and senior centers includes Benchmark Senior living and the founder’s hall. Daily care for children is available in the town, such as children’s academy and apple blossom children’s learning center.
Summary
Ridgefield community boasts of Main Street that comprises of stately houses and museums. The town also has a highly rated school system and ranks as one of the safest towns. Visitors can tour Aldrich’s contemporary art museum, the weir farm national historic site, and Keeler tavern. One of the community’s challenges includes poor road conditions, few train stations, and lack of traffic lights. There is also a need for affordable housing since the available houses are costly. The community’s crime rate is meager, and it is unexpected of a high-ranking community to have a low crime rate. The community is characterized by high income, and it is unexpected to have few healthcare service providers in the town.
