Strategic Planning
Strategic planning is the process of identifying the desired plans of the state of an organization and how to achieve it. Through the analysis of the modern organization operation environment, matched against its capabilities, organization leaders can be able to identify strategies that would help to drive the organization to the future state. In health care, strategic planning involves planning for new building or funding for the expansion of services in regards to population growth.
Strategic planning in an organization is a dynamic process and not a linear process. At first, strategic planning is a creative process that requires a lot of flexibility and a series of steps. Strategic planning involves two activities that are interrelated; developing the strategic plan and execution of the project. Development of a plan usually done in a multilayer of time while implementation is a continuous process which is very critical. Identification of strategic plans is through SWOT analysis, and they are narrowed down to manageable numbers through the selection and prioritizing. Implementation plans and development of other supporting projects then follows.
In health care, strategic planning helps in focusing all the organization resources and energy. Also, it helps in identifying the weakness of the health organization that might be preventing it from reaching its highest potential. Once the vulnerability is detected, the organization can implement and execute steps that will help in minimizing the issues. Strategic planning does not help in identifying the weakness but also the underutilized strengths.
