Social policies

Inequities exist in society in different forms. This paper identifies the domains of education and employment, where inequities have been manifested considerably. Discrimination is a significant inequity that is observable in these two domains. It can be seen in the way some schools receive more funding than others because they have stronger social connections. It can also be observed in the employment field, where merit is sometimes overlooked, and people get employed for their relationships with employers.

Affirmative action is a policy that was enacted to deal with the social problems of education and employment. The policy focuses on creating education and employment empowerment to groups that have been historically denied these rights, including racial minorities and women (Baker, 2019). It aims at addressing the problems created by past and present discrimination against these people. I think the policy needs to be improved by increasing sensitization on all members of the community. There is a need to use the policy to get all people to accept inclusivity. It needs to encourage people to embrace each other as compatriots and stop looking at racial or social differences that can promote discrimination.

Some people are against the policy of affirmative action because they believe it is unconstitutional. They state that inequalities are part of society. It is difficult to change. I think there is a need to move away from this mentality and try to look for practical solutions for each case of discrimination (Sharma, 2016). Critics also argue that affirmative action is not a solution to discrimination because it leads to further inequality. It promotes the development of a sense of entitlement among some people. A positive mindset is required to make people look at this action as a tool to address systemic discrimination in education and employment in the country.
