Abstract

A genogram is compared to a family tree since it provides detailed information on the relationships formed in a particular group of individuals. It allows the user to analyze and identify hereditary patterns that punctuate these relationships. Most professionals in social and human services use genograms to identify where specific concerns and issues emanate within the family. For instance, social workers can utilize this tool to identify a client’s risk to health issues like diabetes and heart illnesses. For this essay, I present a comprehensive genogram of a non-family member. Through four key identity factors – family, country of origin/residence, race/ethnicity, and gender – it describes the family, where the individual grew up and values that represent the person’s culture. The genogram also reviews the roles, responsibilities and expectations associated with gender in the culture. These factors guide in identifying culturally defined characteristics. Most importantly, the genogram explores how these values influence the individual’s perceptions of social responsibility.

The language spoken is a combination of both the native and overall national languages, to ensure that the children stay in touch with their native sides. Different faiths and cultures had an equitable opportunity to express their religious beliefs and practices. Since divorce and parent separation are discouraged, marriage carries a special status in society. Women are perceived as home caretakers and nurturers, while men are the sole breadwinners.
Under child-rearing, discipline and punishment are highly regarded. Notably, children can be corrected and punished by other people aside from their parents. Taboos like homosexuality, same-sex marriages, abortion, adultery, and suicide are preserved. The transition from adolescence to adulthood is celebrated. At a certain age, girls are expected to get married while the boys can continue with their education.
Close-knit and small families are preferred since they are easily manageable. Institutions and persons in authority are highly respected since they make decisions on behalf of the community. Mental health is viewed as a surface matter and can be dealt with by spiritual means. Female entrepreneurship is very low. Most women are either restricted or choose to avoid engaging in business activities or joining professional fields.
Direct or Indirect influence on orientation to Social Responsibility

Since social responsibility entails acting in the best interests of the society (Ganti &Anderson, 2020), children can become functional members of the community only through collective efforts. It is vital to establish an environment that supports every culture’s practices and beliefs. Respect and cultural sensitivity for diverse individuals’ beliefs, values and experiences are necessary. Different people have different priorities which need to recognized and appreciated. As much as every individual is expected to engage in social responsibility, men are more dominant than women. Also, the issue of gender roles is an area of concern that needs immediate action.
