THE ROLE THAT RACE AND GENDER HAVE PLAYED IN THE PAST TWO DECADES:

Over the past decade(s), gender/racial achievements have been made to lessen the gaps in social inequality; this has lead to both positive and negative impacts in different countries. Kenya specifically had had such effects especially when the issue of gender equality was raised. However, in the quest to bring about inequality, one party felt the other party was favored. Equal rights however proved successful in the political arena though there are still some noticeable gaps. Invention of girl power and feminism has proved successful in communities like the Maasai, where in the olden days’ girls were not allowed the privilege to go to school. But instead, stay at home and take care of the necessary chores around the homestead, a percentage of Kenyans has however criticized this empowerment as they claim there has been put much attention to the girl child hence forgetting the boy child who is also encountering related issues.

Issues with feminism have also brought significant problems in society, as women nowadays feel entitled to anything or even everything. Women rights support groups have played a significant role in enlightening women of their right, but some women go ahead misusing the “feminism” aspect of everything. Most recently there have been cases of women killing their husbands during domestic violence; research has also shown that women are developing the habit of not being submissive to their spouses this has lead to a lot of divorce cases, family disputes and violence in many families in the past decade(s). Men have also suffered inferiority complex regarding this feminism issue, as they are not sure of the right actions to take when they are feeling disrespected, humiliated and unlawfully treated by women.

Racial/ethnic gap in the US has brought about many advantages though it is still an issue in the social inequality sector. However, it has been well documented in the gap in academic achievement. Research shows that on the National assessments for reading, science, and mathematics. Black students and Hispanic students score lower than white students. Gaps like this are explanations for tending to focus on the school characteristics, socioeconomic resource influences, the composition of families and neighborhood influence. Solid pieces of evidence indicate that the issues as mentioned above can profoundly affect the performance of students academically. Such issues still create a gap among students as one party tends to feel superior over the other due to the lack of performance and this always leads to a racial/ ethnicity gap.

Gender and race have brought about a big difference in our countries, and the positive effects still outweigh the negative ones. However, more empowerment should be created on both genders so that the problem of inferiority complex is dealt with. Relative family contribution, school level, and neighborhood are still to play a more significant role in fighting racial, socioeconomic inequalities.
