Special Populations
The treatment facility recommended is a Residential Mental Health and Substance Abuse facility. This facility will take in people who have had issues with substance abuse, such as drug addiction, to help them reform and lead better lives. Also, the facility will offer the required services to clients having mental health issues.
One of the treatment models which will be used in this facility is rehabilitation. Rehabilitation is one of the models used by most health facilities to work on such issues as mental health issues and in controlling substance abuse. Rehabilitation has proven to be one of the most effective treatment models in the contemporary world. For instance, the incarceration of people abusing drugs does not reduce their chances of relapsing back to its use after release. However, rehabilitating drug-addicted citizens and those people with mental health issues instead of placing them in nursing homes and mental health facilities with no rehabilitation services, has proven to be one of the most effective treatment models (Komasi, Saeidi & Sorough, 2017).
The current issue that the new facility will address is the increase in cases of patients who are dually diagnosed, which means that a client/patient has both substance use problems as well as a mental health problem. Examples of dual diagnosis problems include Depression and Alcoholism, Anxiety and Prescription drug addiction, Post-traumatic stress disorder and opioid addiction, and Psychosis and meth addiction (Young et al., 2018). However, there is a need to come up with a new approach that will help the new treatment center to address this issue amicably.
The issue of dual diagnosis has proven to be a pressuring problem in society. Most facilities tend to attend to either the problem of substance use or the problem of mental health, without taking the two into account, which eventually results in the relapse of the patient. The first step to solving this issue is to equip the new health facilities with enough personnel to offer not only required treatment, rehabilitation, and health services to the clients but also provide personalized attention and care to the facility. The lack of enough healthcare workers reduces the competency of an organization, which might hinder its ability to deliver. Also, resources are vital in meeting customer expectations in the facility. There need to be adequate resources for the patients as well as the workers in this facility. If the patients live in a clean and friendly environment all through their stay in the facility, they are more likely to change and show progress. The healthcare workers in the new facility also need to be provided with adequate resources in the workplace to help avoid such incidents as disagreements over limited resources. This will enable the healthcare workers to relate well and associate well with the patients who will, in turn, change for the better.
In addition, the individuals in the new facility need to be professionals with the required skills to work in a specific area. The facility requires professional therapists to help the patients through their mental health and substance use issues. Also, other workers, such as counselors, need to be trained and have enough knowledge and expertise on how to handle patients with different mental disorders and those in substance use. The new facility also needs to identify all the possible factors which drove a patient to the primary condition. This should involve a full-time psychiatrist, medical professionals, and nurses to help establish the primary cause of the patient’s destructive behavior.
