Choosing Nursing as a Career

Based on my practice in veterinary medicine, I must admit that deciding to nurse as a career is an overdue decision that I should have made a long ago because during the better part of my life I found myself being involved in handling health-related issues as a veterinary technician/nurse in the past 18 years. Throughout these years of active duty in this field I firmly believe that I have gained enough experience and harnessed immeasurable skills in clinical, research and emergency areas; hence boosting my levels of confidence that choosing nursing as a career wont isn’t a career gamble but its out of my dedication, passion and desire to serve as a nurse.

One of the motivating factors that have unrestrictedly pushed me to pursue a career in nursing came from my mother who, not long ago, was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphosarcoma and I was pleased and honored to help and care for her during the difficult time of her 3-month period when she was attending her chemo and radiation treatment. Just like Hayes (2015; p. 79) explicates that nursing career requires passion, desire, and determination to serve under minimal supervision, I believe that throughout my mother’s period of sickness and treatment I exceptionally surpassed this requirement to the extent of commending me to pursue a nursing career because she felt I make a great nurse. Her advice has since inspired me to further my education, mainly, in nursing because I have the feeling that I can efficiently utilize some of my acquired skills from veterinary such as patient triage, radiology, surgical preps for patients, phlebotomy, etc. to succeed in this field of nursing.

Besides, after enrolling last year as a medical assistant; I recently I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a perfect attendance record. Most importantly, during my externship I had a privilege to work with two of your nurses from Tennessee college of applied science and they kept sharing with me their vast and best experience they acquired through your institution and the quality of the programs that the college offers, cumulatively, these factors have equally motivated me to apply for this Nurse PR actioner program in your college. I hope that my strong desire and hope of joining your institution will come to pass because I believe that Tennessee college of applied science is the right place for me to develop and mold my nursing skills. Kindly consider my application for an opportunity to pursue my nursing career in your institution. Thank you in advance.
