“A Streetcar Named Desire”
The film “A Street Named Desire” is a film written by Tennessee Williams. It is categorized as a drama film. The film’s plot tells the story of a southern belle, Blanche Dubois, who afterward opts to seek refuge with her sister as well as his brother in law in an old New Orleans apartment house. This is after Blanche Dubois has gone through a series of personal losses and decides to abandon her aristocratic background past life. The actors and actresses in the film helped to bring to life what Williams’s main objective was upon writing the script of this movie. Indeed, the author or scriptwriter, Tennessee Williams, intended to show desire in the film “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
The theme of sexual desire is depicted from the start to the end of the film. The power of sexual desire is what runs in the psychology of many characters in this film. Besides, all the characters in this film are controlled by that little trap streetcar in several ways. The main character Dubois depicts much of her conception is based on her personal perception has a male sexual desires’ object. Blanche displays sexual behaviors in many ways. She dresses in a manner that calls the attention of her body, which makes her sexually attractive to the male gender (Williams, 2010).
The street of New Orleans is also used to display the themes of the play. To Blanche Dubois, the settings of the play, City of New Orleans is used to depict the ugliness of reality (Bradford, 2020). Some people live in this city described as crude, who represents the decline of civilized culture. There is also something interesting about the play. The art and cultural diversity are depicted in the French quarter. At the start of the play, there is a black and white person chatting. How they are communicating at ease depicts the acceptance of cultural diversity present in the French quarter (Bradford, 2020).
