Why does it captivate you?
Since my school days, I am always looked forward to spending time in my father’s NGO, Sankalp. From childhood, I have seen how my father worked for the kids of maids and poor women in our locality. He has actively helped the children with their studies and other help. This developed an instinct in me to help the kids since I was in my primary school days. This paved the way to help my fellow mates in school in different ways. From helping them in class to other activities, it has given me great joy.
My father has inspired me a lot in choosing social work as a good option to choose during my holidays. It started to challenge me in overcoming different hurdles in my life. Helping the helpless in the NGO touched my heart deeply as I started to grow and understand how deprived they are of the basic needs in life. I slowly started to build connections with the kids, among which some were of my age group. It gave me great courage and inspiration to spend my holidays in the NGO. Though it was a bit different in the way, I used to spend my summer holidays than my friends did. But once I told them about the concept and work of my father’s NGO, many of them showed interest and wanted to accompany me.
With this connection, I got the honor of knowing how much interest the poor kids have in study. I am glad that the father took me to the NGO. This was the start of my life as an active social worker. As I was about to complete my school studies, I joined hands with a local health care team. I pursued science in my higher secondary, and Biology is my favorite subject that helped me a lot in becoming part of a health care team. I slowly honed my skills to communicate with others, knowing their problems, and offering solutions. I also took up a small course to work as a social worker and it opened more opportunities to serve the ones who are in actual need of the help of NGOs.
I slowly gained confidence in my work as I saw children getting better education opportunities and families are healing from different mental depressed states. This gave me the courage and the inspiration to help more people who find it hard to deal with challenging life situations. As I started with my college education, there also got people who are interested in working as social workers. My friends started to support me and it gave me the chance to reach out with my support. Together, we approached in offering help and successfully formed a healthy tribe.
So, being part of different social works from my early days taught me to become thoughtful and a committed citizen helping to bring in some positive changes.
