Every learner is always anxious to learn something new; they make sure that they keenly follow the learning objectives. I have the same experience on ENGL 1101, the first days I was excited to go through the course objects, I got along and tried my best to achieve every objective. The instructor highly appreciated my first attempt at writing a journal, I got nine out of ten; besides, my second journal was more exciting because I scored highly again. However, as the semester progressed, I started falling back, I lost the track. For this reason, I want to offer my advice to future students of this course based on personal experience.
Based on the learning objectives of this semester, in critical thinking and use of the writing process to produce writing, I can give myself 8/10. I learned to write correct sentences and paragraphs and use of proper punctuation I can rate myself at 7/10. However, I got a problem with the clarity of ideas and planning writing, which I can give myself 5/10. I tried to improve in my learning, and on the other objectives, I can rate it at 6/10. The performance is based on my ability to understand and apply the learning objectives. However, I just realized that I did not pay much attention to several goals.
Future students of this course are lucky because I want to advise them based on my experience. First of all, at the beginning of the course, every learner should have learning objectives and the course outline. This is a good strategy because it gives the students time to analyze and interpret what they are going to learn throughout the semester. Besides, a course outline is good because students can navigate through the course, reading more ahead of the instructor, thus making it easier for them to master the course. Also, learning objectives are essential because they give directions on specific areas that learners need to master.
Furthermore, students should ensure that they attend all classes in the course. Class attendance is one of the bases for an excellent performance. When one attends classes fully, they can learn more because every day, the teacher comes with different approaches to teaching, which are only applicable to these in classes. Moreover, one can make short essential notes that the teacher occasionally dictates without recording. One of the things that made me not to achieve the objectives entirely is that I did not attend all classes. It is, therefore, advisable for the learners to take class attendance seriously.
In summary, all students are capable of performing better than me. I advise them to ensure that they keep the learning objectives at the fingertips as well as attend all the classes offered in the course. Performing well is a choice, so every learner has a right to make a better choice to have better results.
