“Adaptation” by Leslie A. Davidson
Adaptation is a story that revolves around a long-married couple who walk alongside the river that is near their town. The story is written and strongly, but beyond it, there is the aspect of complexities of pain, memory, and love People learn to cope with the hard things in life that they do not expect (Davidson, 2017). The story is also told with a lot of gentle humor and tenderness. The story searchers for signposts, and navigates through the new terrain of people’s lives as they age. Besides, it also brings out how people should learn the knack of laughing and crying (Davidson, 2017). Adaptation reflects the challenges of Davidson’s home life. Davidson had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Later, her husband was also diagnosed with a condition known as young-onset dementia. Therefore, Davidson believes that when she tells their story through “Adaptation,” this was a therapy that articulates that they went together (Davidson, 2017). Even though the journey had a lot of sorrows, it was colored by compassion, humor, and astonishing love.
This story is about the hopes that people should have in their lives despite the challenges they face. Davidson brings out the fact that they overlooked the diagnosis that they had and chose to be happy (Davidson, 2017). Besides, she also reminisces the past wither husband, and they forget all the worries that they have to face as a couple because of their diagnosis. The couple reminds the readers that life always has a positive aspect that people have to focus on despite the challenges that they go through.
