Addiction in the united states is caused by alcohol, opioids, cocaine, or heroin. The leading causes of deaths are alcohol and drug abused has tripled since 1990. Drug abuse has become rampant, and several initiatives have been developed by U.S. presidents to tackle it. Resources are continuously being allocated and policy development to address drug abuse and other public health concerns. The contributing factors of drug abuse and addiction are poverty and increased chronic pain, which has increased opioid prescription-paving for cocaine and heroin use. Others include familial factors such as mistreatment, marital status, parent-child relationship, level of education, and socioeconomic factors. Also, physical and sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and peer pressure. Drug abuse is associated with several problems such as mental illness, child abuse, teenage pregnancies, homicides, road accidents, STIs, increased crimes, and HIV/ADS. | ||
