American Sign Language (ASL)
American Sign Language (ASL) is a natural sign language that is predominantly used by deaf communities in America and most other countries. The language implies the use of hands, facial expression, and body movement. It’s the primary language used in most parts of North America who have difficulties in hearing, but even the healing people can still use it. The language is used to communicate to teach and to give stories to those who cannot hear but can understand the language. This essay summarizes three stories given in sign language.
ASL Timber Story Summary
The story is about tress. There was a tall man with thick facial hair who went to work using his axe and lunch box. When walking, he saw many trees short, tall and eventually right one. He placed his lunchbox and begun to cut the tree, causing them to wobble. He stepped a few strides back and shouted TIMBER which made the trees to fall shaking the ground. He collected his lunch box and walked past many trees until he saw a small tree. He put his lunch box down and chopped the small tree making it to wobble. He then whispered TIMBER and the tree fall. The Gallaudet and Clerc Story Summary
One day Gallaudet was strolling in the neighbourhood. He saw a girl named Alice playing alone. He approached her and tried to talk to her, but Alice could not respond. Thomas was puzzled and decided to tap her shoulder, and finally, she looked back. Thomas tried to talk, but the girl said she couldn’t speak. Thomas realized she was deaf and decided to look for help. He sailed to England and observed how deaf children were taught. Thomas didn’t like the method since no sign was used. He met with teacher Clerc whose method of teaching was good as he used signs. Thomas realized that she was deaf also. Thomas followed the teacher Clerc and requested him to accompany him to America to assist in teaching the deaf in America. Clerc did not decide at first but later on agreed. On America, Alice was taught sign language, and from there, they established a Deaf school in Hartford.
To sum up, my favorite story is The Gum. I chose this story because it gives me the grips of children’s story essential in teaching kids related behaviors.
