Analysis and Organizational Plan
The University of Miami is recognized to boasts one of the largest sporting programs in the United States. The school facility recognizes the importance of creating and running student organizations, and for this fact, it has implemented a dozen of sports and business-oriented clubs and organizations. The school management takes a step higher in encouraging its students to engage in these sports clubs and organizations. The school management recognizes that including these sporting organizations in the school learning system boosts the academic, social, and cultural organizations that are towards fostering leadership developments and creating an environment that enhances real-world learning opportunities to its learners (Garrett & Gohari, 2005). These sporting organizations provide students with numerous opportunities ranges from career preparation and professional networking all the way to community service. Also, Miami University sporting clubs allow learners, staff, faculty, and alumni the opportunity to take part in different competitive, instructional, and recreational sports all along the academic year. With more than 30 registered organizational clubs, they allow the student to learn and experience new skills, compete, and participate in a particular activity or sport. These sport club organizations among them include badminton, racquetball, karate, tennis, scuba, volleyball, and many more. Each organizational club is structured in its personality; among these clubs, some of them are highly organized while others are typically laidback.
Among the club organization in the school that is well organized and structured is the badminton club. The University of Miami badminton club, having been established in 1989, it has witnessed a significant progression in improving and expanding gradually and unstoppably. This is due to the reason that the badminton organization is structured in a way it suits its participants and gets them involved in the management and competition. Badminton is organized in its objective type being recreational since it involves playing outdoors, and therefore it is recognized as a recreational activity. Being a recreational sport, its programs offer the opportunity for all students to join and get involved in the organization. It is organized in a way the participating members promote and develop their interests and skills into each other during the sporting activity. Badminton organization ensures that all its students participate directly in the supervision and administration of its running activities, as well; it offers a ground for a unique combination of commitment and community as it involves its activities for the national titles and development of real-world leadership skills. Badminton management also ensures that this target goal is met by planning events, organizing meetings, and establishing class dues. So that the organization can maximize the interaction and involvement rates of the students, it ensures that the badminton club hosts at least one tournament a semester every year.
A team that could impact the sports activities of the United States in a very significant way needs to evaluate its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and possible threats. The evaluation of SWOT analysis in any field club organization helps corporations to have a better understanding of the areas that need improvements and also the changes that need to be made in order to achieve the set goal (Works, 2020). To get the proper analysis that would prove beneficial to the organization, it is considered always to consider the internal factors such as management and the external factors, which may include social, economic and political issues.
The badminton sports department has the benefit of many internal and external strengths that are imposed to stimulate marketing strategies. One of the strengths badminton organization that it greatly witnesses is its history. The history surrounding and tradition surrounding the sporting activities at Miami University is an immense benefit for marketers in the badminton sporting club. First, as it is earlier on discussed that the badminton club was established in 1989, this early building and founding of the club paved the way for building up one of the most impressive resumes for the institution, therefore enabling growth and popularizing the activities associated with the badminton. Secondly, the university has been consistently ranked among the top United States universities for international students, therefore, entry of international students and making them join the badminton club sees the growth of the sport as is also introduced to other countries, and particularly, campaigning on how the Miami badminton organization carries its sporting activities.
In terms of the weaknesses, Miami University’s badminton club may not be recognized as the only centralized base for providing the most favorable badminton sporting activities; this is due to the competition available from other academic and sports centers available in the United States. Also, another weakness that is easily noted is that he sports in not well familiarized with many people, therefore lacking to boost the attention needed that would make people join the sporting activity. Another internal challenge that proves to be a weakness to the badminton club is the lack of much attention or emphasis from the university administration. The attention may matter in terms of financial support and other requirements.
Drawing our focus on the external factors, the badminton club could find many opportunities that should address and leverage in order to become a solid sports team (Groupmap, 2019). This is due to the fact that the university exists with diversified multicultural students as the cultural component is considered crucial (Madsen, 2016). In this sense is that the badminton club needs to take note of the Miami’s location, as it proves to be an opportunity. This is because the university hosts diversified multicultural students. The Miami city connects South, and North America is a strategic place for Latin-American fans, who are said to engage in sports. Also, badminton sports offer an alternative for sports fans who want to be highly involved in recreation activities while still not taking part in playing the sport. Similarly, as the current playing fields seem to be squeezed, if the club coordinators could incite the school managements to build more badminton training and playing field, it would be an important step in enriching the sport to many students.
Finally, the badminton organization should address any possible threat that could prove to be a challenge for the team. Among the possible threat that is likely to be encountered, is the damaging of the team’s reputation and image as well as the impact on the familiarity of team management. For instance, soccer is commonly known to be an influential sport in the United States; any scandal or negligence from badminton management teams may cause more damage in the familiarity of the sport. Also, as many people are free on evenings and weekends, the sport does not meet the strategy of meeting or familiarizing this sport to many people. This is because there few television channels that broadcast the progress or completion in the evening or weekends when the majority of students are at home—thus leaving a huge gap for people to recognize or familiarize with the game.
One of the major challenges issues that the university administration identified is the lack of facilities that run the sports programs. Concerning this, the university has played a major role in upgrading and modernizing these facilities. The badminton organization has been included in the list as several advancements are required in this field of sport as well. The badminton club has been receiving numerous donations from outsiders and also its members who have helped to contribute towards the building progress of the new facilities. Similarly, there have been donations corrected to facilitate the process. Miami’s badminton club’s purpose has been to strive towards redefining the student-sports participation by balancing leadership, academics, athletic, and community achievement. This purpose was in line with the initial goal for the organization as it was to catch up with other schools as the university sets an eye on further progress.
In conclusion, badminton as a sports forum is great for drop-in recreation activities. Badminton, as a recreation activity, is dedicated to achieving the diverse recreational needs of its members. Its main goal that drives the badminton organization is its purpose of providing an environment that enhances and promotes wellness in the lives of Miami members, students, and guests. If its grievances are meet, the badminton club is a very exciting project that could bring a positive atmosphere as well as revenue not only to the Miami University but also to the city of Miami and its community. Responsible organizing bodies need to ensure that they tackle all the internal and external issues in order to the best utilization of this sport and make sure that it is competing to higher levels.
