Analysis of Rhetoric Choices in Two Arguments

Visual rhetoric comprises of the persuasive communication expressed through text, typography or images. Mostly the visual rhetoric is expressed through the images that define the argument in the image displayed or the text in comparison with the intended communication. Two visual images maybe rhetoric on the basis of the target audiences, the purpose of the visual and the over the information in the visual image. To further elaborate on the visual rhetoric we will base our argument on two visual images that have different genres but are purposed for similar appeal.  The visual images (Image 1 and image 2) have a similar appeal of the verbal abuse to the society especially woman and children while using different images and strategies to make their appeals.  In the images, rhetoric aspects are portrayed in deferent angles independently.

Image 1 and Image two has the similar of condemning the torture and verbal abuse to women and the children. The first image argument and visual description differ from the second image. Based on Image one, it displays a man’s hand from his mouth and hits a woman. From the image, the man hand reflects the communication to the audiences where men are verbally abusive to their women. Additionally, the woman image portrays that in most of the communities, the most verbally abused are women. Whereas in the second image represents the verbal words that are formed around the neck of a crying boy. The second image targets the community where the children are the most harassed in the community. Indeed the wording around the boy’s necks shows how abusive language can affect children directly. Therefore on the second image, the primary audiences are the societies that are using offensive words to children. The two images express the same argument on verbal abuse; however, the first image argument is more persuasive than the second argument.

Images one and two are using two deferring in communicating with the target audiences. The First image has applied the strategy of displaying the image of the woman and a man to show the conflicting gender and also a strategy of showing the woman in absolute pain. Choosing to use the two gender adult images is basically a strategy for delivering the message to the adults and not the children. The author first image further portrays the two gender to communicate that verbal abuse is common amongst women and men. Secondly, displaying the woman in pain is a strategy targeting women and men audiences. Women should avoid and dismiss the verbal abuse from their men, whereas men are informed as to the primary sources of verbal abuse targeting women. Importantly, the two strategies converge in condemning the verbal abuse amongst men to women in the community.  The potent effect of these strategies condemning audiences from harassing women emotionally with abusive words.

Image two implements two strategies, namely portraying a crying child and the wording surrounded in his neck. The first strategy has a dependency on the second strategy; in this manner, the crying child reflects the majority of the suffering children in the communities. Oral abusive can hurt children emotional reading to future mental adverse effects. Therefore the crying child stands as a strategy of showing how severely the abusive words impact to the children. Strategy two portrays how offensive words have affected the children and the broader society. The art of surrounding the words on the boy’s necks, further reflects how those abusive words can be slow murder to the children. Usually, societies are related to using trying rope around the neck, the surrounding of the words around the neck is a strategy of showing how abusive words can be suicidal to young children in societies.  The potent effect of the two strategies from image one is focused on condemning offensive words by community members towards the children.

Comparably, the two images portray different strategies in communicating with the audiences, with one powerful than the other.  The first visual image strategies are overly images, while the second images include text in the strategy.  Unlike image 2, image one has more direct communication to the audiences through the use of the text. Audiences leading the text will absolutely understand the communication objective of the image. While in image one, the protruding hand from the mouth I the core of communication to the audiences. There is a reflection of harassment using an oral weapon to the woman by the view of the protruding hand. Similarly, both strategies deliver the oral abuse aspect. For an instant, image one protruding hand reflects oral abuse while the words around the neck are only uttered by the word of the month in the society. They are hence connecting to the audiences to stop harassing women and children through oral abuse.

The strategies used to image one and two depict the different intensity of effectiveness to the audiences.  Image two has a text-based strategy and image strategy, while image one is purely based on its strategy through images only. Bearing in mind that the visual images strategies have a convergent objective to condemning oral abuse, image two is discriminatory to audiences who may not understand the meaning of the words surrounding the boy’s neck.  Such viewers may not receive the persuasive effect intended by the strategies in image two. Indeed illiterate may fail to understand why the boy is crying and the role of the words around the neck.  However, image strategies are more direct and easy to understand. The hand protruding from the man’s mouth and the paining woman, effectively communicate the message. Further, the audience will easily relate the hand from the month as an oral weapon affecting the woman emotionally. Therefore image two attains its purpose of condemning verbal abuse amongst women.
