Applied management

Various studies have been undertaken on the examination of aspects such as influence, management, and leadership. This aspect has been based on the fact that these terms are much related. In some instances, the three words have been used in the examination of the performance of the various aspects within institutions. Such factors are perceived to guide the courses of action undertaken in the different institutions leading to the attainment of specific goals and objectives. Influence is used in cases of leading and managing, as it is considered to have a significant impact on the success of both functions. This essay will, therefore, examine the relationship between influence and managing, influence, and leading and why both managing and leading depend on influence.

Management is the process of coordination and organizing the various activities of a business or an institution to attain the set goals and objectives. This process involves the interlocking of events and different functions in the creation of corporate policy, organizing controlling and directing the various aspects required to achieve the objectives of the policy. On the other hand, influence is power or ability to influence another individual or a group of people to undertake a particular course of action. In this case, managing involves the use of authority to make individuals take a given course of action while influence is the use of inspiration or application of advice to make individuals undertake a specific course of activities. Both aspects involve making other individuals take something, but managing is being conducted through the use of a command, while influence undertakes inspirations or advice or guidance.

Leading is the use of authority to influence people to undertake a given action. In this case, a leader is charged with the duty to control people to make a particular course of action. Leaders may take various styles to impact operations, but they are part of the activities to be undertaken. Therefore, leaders have a title which the other individuals look up to for guidance and advice, and this makes them loyal to the individual since the individual has the duty to guide them on the various aspects they are undertaking. This aspect is different from influence since the influencer does not necessarily need to have a tittle to make them commit a given task. For a leader to effective in executing his duties, they need to influence to gain trust in the individuals they are leading. This aspect makes influence to be an essential factor in the aspect of leading. In this case, leading requires influence, but for one to influence, they do not need to have the ability to lead. This aspect makes the two to be highly related even though they do not refer to the same thing.

Based on the examination of the concepts of leading and managing, I can be stated that both require influence to make people undertake an individual course of action. This aspect means that influence plays a significant role when dealing with individuals. In this case, management requires influence to enable the manager to make individuals undertake different actions to attain the set goals and objectives. In this case, influence enables managers to utilize their power in a friendly way to make individuals be committed to a given task. It is argued that only a fraction of managerial work can be accomplished through the use of authority. Therefore, influence plays a significant role in the motivation of individuals.

On the other hand, leadership much relies on influence for it to be effective. This situation is based on the fact that leaders are associated with the development of ideas which no one has ever thought about it. Therefore, leaders need the influence to convince individuals that the ideas they have are right for them and make them abide by them and undertake the various actions required to realize the benefits of the ideas relayed to them. Influence is, therefore, considered as a crucial factor in the enhancement of performativity in the processes of leading and managing.

In conclusion, influence, managing, and leading are three words that have a different meaning. Also, it has been identified that managing uses a command to initiate a course of action while leading utilizes advice or guidance to make people embrace the various ideas required. Therefore, influence is an excellent factor in the enhancement of the performance of both leading and managing. Through influence, the leaders and managers ensure that the various tasks required to be undertaken executed effectively without the use of force. Even though one can manage without influence, it is evident that the use of a command can only make a fraction of the managerial tasks to be executed. Also, leading without influence is not sufficient. Therefore, influence is considered as an essential factor in the enhancement of performativity in both managing and leading tasks.
