Assume that in the next decade scientists will identify the specific causes of aging, allowing us to significantly lengthen the lifespan. What impact(s) would this have on our society?

I think products that claim they are anti-aging will increase along with the promotion of beneficial supplements because we have that now despite not knowing the specific causes of aging. I also think we would experience a major shift in our society when it comes to the medical field and the economy because with lengthening the lifespan there’s more people to support for a longer period both medically and financially, there’s also more people who would be able to work. Continuing with the financial support, there would be an increased need for special housing and other services that assist the elderly because of the lengthened lifespan. We might also have new discoveries or new issues to deal with if people would be able to live longer because although they might be able to live longer, their quality of life might not be so great.
Question 2: (110 words)
Based on what you read in the chapter, how can the rate of diabetes be reduced through education? In other words, how would you educate people?
This is someone else’s answer to this question – you will need to reply to him/her as a part of discussion: (40 words)
According to the text, Type I diabetes typically develops earlier in life and requires the use of insulin, and Type II diabetes usually develops later in life and can be managed through diet. Type I diabetes can not be prevented but can be managed, whereas Type II diabetes can be prevented and rates can be reduced. It is important to educate people on both types of diabetes and how each one can be managed. I would first educate people on the risk factors and symptoms of each type. For example, a couple of risk factors for Type I are family history and age, and risk factors for Type II include being overweight or obese, being physically inactive, and having prediabetes. Symptoms may include excessive thirst or hunger, increased urination, fatigue, weight loss, blurry vision, or impaired wound healing. I would then educate people on how to test for, prevent, and manage diabetes. Type I diabetes can be managed by taking insulin shots, checking blood sugar, managing stress, and making healthy lifestyle habits. Type II diabetes can be prevented or managed in the same ways. It is important to eat healthy, exercise, watch one’s blood pressure and cholesterol, etc.
