Attack on Corruption and Abuses of Authority in the Church
The article is on ‘To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation’ in which Martin Luther criticizes the norm with the spiritual leaders and corruption in churches. The article explores the nature of leaders in the churches. The division of the three kingdoms motivated him to write on the churches’ leadership, character, and corruption. He also critics the behaviour of the dominating the churches even after retirement.
Luther being a leader of the protestant reformation he decided to write an article on the Christian nobility to Germany in 1520. The publication of the documents laid the foundation of reformation principles. This article was mainly for the Christians and the leaders in authority in churches.
Publication of the document was during Leipzig’s fights, where Luther contacted with the human. This motivated in trying to reform the church. Luther was an ordained priest where his career as a reformer began in Wittenberg church in Germany.
In this article, he wanted to fight for the rights of the average human beings who have no authority, which is the layman’s spiritual independence in churches. Being a pastor, he showed care to the Christians misused by the leaders in the name of leadership. He argues that all Christians are equal and quotes from the article ‘one faith, gospel, and sacrament.’ It shows how Luther wanted equality between leaders and other Christians. On the issue of the sacrament, he explained the Christians should discern the right and wrong thing to do. He quotes on the sacrament where he talks of everyone having the power to distinguish right from wrong.
In conclusion, Luther’s primary objective in writing the article was to criticize the breaking the three kingdoms influenced by the dominating church leaders. Luther explores the leadership in churches, which has become a significant problem for many churches’ growth.
