Autobiographies contribute significantly to the development of personal life and organizational research. Ideas and skills integrated into leadership aspects contribute mostly to scholarship and planning future events. According to Campbell’s historical journey, a hero is anyone who dedicates his or her life to extra-ordinary deeds more than oneself. Anyone can be a hero by birth, accidentally, or purpose. It may incur painful evolution, which results in prerequisite greatness. The core challenge of a leader is apparently the complete acceptance by the public domain. Initially, a person may be afraid to take a platform of leadership, but due to consistent guidance from peers and mentor, you build up the confidence, overcoming fear and ready committed to take the journey of heroes. Along the journey to a prospective leader, you can come across allies, enemies, and critics, these prepare you to become an ordeal and substantial leader. Ordinarily, some individuals bear the heroism in them, usually by insight or knowledge. This helps the leader make essential decisions.
The fundamental challenge and experience that each leader has to undergo, according to Campbell, is the dependence on material and psychological matters. The moments’ leaders face challenges and difficulties become the most appropriate time to gain wisdom and power to guard other people. This process “requires a metaphorical death and resurrection,” as described by Campbell. It is impossible to put down leadership struggles in a noble context. As a leader, the outstanding achievements and battles conquered are interpreted as the incredible tales of history and contemporary misconceptions. However, tribulations and trials leaders face for survival may not be termed as heroic but hardship. Typically, leaders for the first time are rejected, criticized for their incompetence, or maybe opposed (Dunham n.p). Campbell, in his book of Neale, backed up a leadership position as the process of going from fear and self-involved subservient to fully human who recognizes his/her potential. Emotional afflictions, behavioral compulsions, and perception distortions cause many leaders to suffer indirectly.
Despite the challenging issues which might lead to complexity in performing our duties, the determination should be the core aim then take of actions. Observance of personal performance is very critical helps us to contemplate becoming less reactive and responsive enough. Maturity is essential when handling present challenges. Campbell explained to Moyers in an open interview that the real problem accompanying many leaders is primarily the loss of thinking for oneself and personal protection. Once you acquire a leadership profile, personal security and wellbeing is a vital awakening transformation of consciousness. As leaders, when we keep evolving, it builds the conscious of our journey, which marks a hero from blind roam. The risks many leaders face are discussed in Neale, where Campbell argued that “we have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us. The labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have to follow the thread of the hero path. And where we had thought to find an abomination we shall find god.” Typically leaders are excluded from the other humankind since they are considered exceptional and extra-ordinary creatures by standing with their leadership virtual.
In every group of individuals, there must be a leader coordinating the session. Leadership is not a profession but is built and or born into insight, so not everybody can fit to be a leader. In contemporary times, leaders do incur a tough time since many of their allies advocate to have favor or duties delegated done base on their wishes. As a leader, you have to stand firm with your decisions and ideas, which, according to you, thinks, will bring a positive impact to all people without exception. Although Campbell was a true hero and leader, he wasn’t that righteous nor religious. But he was devoted to gain spiritual strength to guide him through his heroic journey. The perseverance and tolerance in leadership awaken many potential leaders who may be doomed by a lack of confidence or mockery from the public (Dunham n.p). Leadership is an occupation just like the other, so it is mandatory to have its advantages and drawbacks. It is helpful to figure out a hero’s journey of Joseph Campbell and reflect the past events putting them into existence in the present scenario. If the work becomes more complex, it is also useful to consult or find a mentor, someone who is knowledgeable to guide you.
Despite having all the authoritative powers, there some limitations which hold back the execution of services. For example, you are not obliged to decide in favor of any group. As a hero or leader, you have to portray ethical-moral for others to emulate (iconic perspective), and last you have to respect every individual’s opinion. Not once nor twice you will receive opposition or intimidation, but your decision and verdicts must not base on anger or any external pressure. Many people have the perception that hero’s and leaders do not come that noble, but Campbell argues that “we are subject to social system that advances the individual to our true natures.” He disclosed that the journey to heroism is brought by perseverance and hardship. Indeed, successful leadership does not come to a silver platter. You have to go through hard times so as to become an icon. Many have tried but declined, it is a continuous process that needs self-determination and tireless efforts in building your personality.
