Benefits of Mindfulness and Meditation
- Introduction
Mindfulness is closely related to meditation in that an individual is in a position to remain aware and understanding of the present issues without necessarily having to pass judgment at the moment. Different scientists have associated meditation and mindfulness with benefits ranging between fitness and health and that individuals have to include the two practices in the list of things to consider while working towards transformed lifestyles.
- Method
The study was done on a sample of 250 first year psychology students. Data collection formed a significant part of the study surveyed, and questionnaires played a significant role in providing the data needed. The satisfaction was measured using the Life satisfaction scale.
- Procedure
The participants in the study were asked to fill in a questionnaire that contained questions on the levels of meditation and mindfulness. The survey was done online, with the instructions being provided over the internet.
- Results
Mindfulness was found to be moderately to correlate to satisfaction in life (r= 0.45) strongly. The interpretation for mindfulness and vitality was similar to that of positive affect. The results for mindfulness and negative affect showed a negative correlation.
- Discussion
The results from the study have shown significant support for the hypothesis that meditation and mindfulness are beneficial to an individual. Also, the results supported the claim that mindfulness improved the motivation of an individual in matters to do with physical activities.
